I think Eset has been a standard here for a while, for a lot of members, not quiet on par with the "McAfee Uprising of 2025" yet

I'm not into Eset due to pricing,configuration and features.

But since the VPN became available in V19 Premium and it's lightweight, I'm now considering on getting one.
Just need to find ways on activation as it's region lock.

With this VPN I have not had any dropouts as far as I can tell. This notebook has pretty much been on since I reinstalled Eset and the VPN. The other notebook with Avast Free and Proton, has had a couple of drop outs. But like you, I will be looking into a better price (below Eset renewal price) from some of the links and vendors that have been posted here and uninstall Avast and Proton from that other laptop. Eset is one of the most stable and glitch free Av's I've used, right along with Kaspersky.

And when I was using Eset on my phone, I had no problems or excess of battery drain. I may install it on my phone as well, replacing F-Secure. But I hardly use my phone for anything, so we'll see

Being McAfee allows license stacking, and my McAfee TP is good for 10 years, I'll go McAfee

McAfee Licenses are very inexpensive and on sale all of the time

Plus you get a full VPN

McAfee is way cheaper and better if you got more users at home. They have UNLI plan.

That is a lot of beer tokens, though any decent VPN is not cheap but still many penny's

Yes, definitely. Knowing what a trustworthy premium VPN costs, ESET put themselves in a whole new context of affordability.

The settings don’t really attract me and neither does the VPN. If something works, it works. It doesn’t need 300 parameters (maybe more).

But I admit their website and brand identity is cool, plus the product respects the performance.

This is one of the things I don't like with Eset. The configuration is confusing and needs some learning curve unlike others which are very straightforward.

Which is why for me, I always thought F-Secure was the perfect balance and had uninstalled Eset about 3 months ago. It had so many settings I wasn't using but paying for, and that to have LiveGuard you need to have Premium? I still think it's a shame what happened with F-Secure, their VPN works very good in the US. Not a lot of VPN settings, but not to bad either.

If we look on how it functions, sending suspicous file to cloud for analysis and blocking. This is what Avast,AVG,Norton and the rest is doing. I'm not sure what makes it special as this feature is already present with other AV just that those don't have fancy names.

I may have gotten caught up with the v19 excitement including the VPN, but thank you @stonjean633 and @Trident for helping me think it through a little more, and helping to save me from spending more money on a renewal There are other options I have that are already paid for, or for free that will work very nicely for me

I want to get Eset but I'm still weighing the pros and cons. Having mixed feelings as of now.

The settings are precisely why I chose ESET. I can't trust their detection fully. My red team has so far evaded all AV's we have tried thus proving that automatic detection cannot be trusted. ESET Protect is my new test. (We dropped Xcitium because their registry blocks weren't working - found that out during Assessment phase of RMF ( NIST risk mgmt framework). Proves that boring tedious work pays off in security; you've got to test every mechanism of your security. RMF really does work, so put in some effort and follow their instructions in those ~80 pages. If it is good enuf for DoD (department of defense) , it's good enuf for you. )

And I had chatGPT cough up ~65 persistence enabling registries which I have placed into HIPS registry block rules. Plus ~25 path block rules. I would like to see some positive results out of these stupid AVs for once. They maybe good against malware, but as to other types of intrusions.....

not disagreeing with you, fwiw I asked chatgpt5 to comment on your post and it told me: "Just because ChatGPT (or any large language model) suggests registry keys or path block rules doesn’t mean they’re correct, complete, or safe for your particular setup (home vs enterprise, OS version, ESET version, services used)" I use chatgpt almost everyday in some capacity and I usually get good info, but sometimes, not

While I'm well aware you can get better protection by tweaking the settings, do you feel that it provides adequate protection when using the default settings, or not?

I stick with Eset, i like the layout, 100% no upselling pop ups, protection wise its great. I placed here alot of time where to get cheap licenses.
My cusom HIPS and Firewall rules are also the reason, i like to be in control and dont let the programm decide for me.

I tried it out last month and it worked well. Other IRL factors meant I switched back to MD but would probably think about grabbing it again in the sales. Great tests as always! I like the new transition effects
