It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

Eset is a well-known Slovakian antivirus, highly appreciated for its lightness on the system.
Formerly called Eset-Nod32, the publisher has modified its entire range in this 2024 edition, calling them Home, Premium and Ultimate (which includes a VPN thanks to a partnership with Windscribe)
In version 18, ESET has strengthened its engine for blocking unknown threats and enhanced protection features against ransomware and advanced malware.

Admittedly, it's not much, but we'll take a look.

Web protection: 10/10
Eset blocked all malicious links.

Fake crack : 1/1
Eset LiveGuard attempts to analyze the file.
It declares the file to be safe, as the SFX is password-protected.
During the launch, Eset will block the 3 malicious installations.

Malware Pack : Remaining 9 files out of 148.
ESET blocks a suspicious file at runtime, dropping it from 10 to 9.
At launch, the attacks don't launch, I suspect ESET is silently blocking access, or the C&C servers are closed.
Excellent point for Eset!

Final scan :
Eset : 0
NPE : 0
KVRT : 0 (False Positive)

Final opinion:

ESET offers excellent protection on all levels.
Its protection against unknown forms has been much improved, as ESET detects unknown files in “Suspicious” mode thanks to its LiveGird cloud network.
We still recommend it.

When this video comes out, I'll be away from home for the weekend to get some rest.
I'll be releasing the MS Defender + DefenderUI Pro video when I get back, on November 13, as it's already been shot and edited.
Have a great weekend ;)

Thanks for the detailed review! It's great to see that ESET Smart Security Premium v18 is performing well on all fronts. Enjoy your weekend and looking forward to the MS Defender + DefenderUI Pro video.

Fantastic work 👍. Darn shame that LiveGuard is still only available with a premium subscription. Nonetheless, I still use it on my main desktop, and have been for years. ✌️
Also, for what it’s worth, the best antispam out there. I have 140,000 different spam addresses exported to my saved settings.

Your last ESET review helped inform my recent decision to migrate over from Kaspersky. I did opt for premium to have LiveGuard, although this pricing scheme didn't appeal to me initially. Glad to see that it's still performing admirably. The lightness and stability really stand out for me.

Thanks for all your effort sharing these insightful experiments!

Thank you for the test!!
I still have a license for almost a year for the what was Internet Security, but looking on the ESET UK site I see it no longer exists, there as now Essential, Premium & Ultimate - Which of the new categories would the old Internet Security license activate? plz?? :)

ESET Internet Security is now part of the ESET HOME Security Essential plan AFAIK :)

Thank you @Shadowra for the test. ESET is my favorite but currently I'm using Bitdefender Internet Security which is unbeatable as per your earlier test.

thanks for this good test. Kaspersky and ESET are the most balanced security software out there. false positive, being light, etc. I believe after v17.1 or 17.2 eset improved its detection capability, if you use a recent intel CPU they use the intel TDT technology for much better ransomware and threat detection.

Both eset and Kaspersky are some of the very few products to usually accurately categorize piracy and usage of liveguard , ksn really helps to whitelist the popular safe piracy software meanwhile blacklisting malware

Oh and piracy being some of the highest of risks is in my opinion a benchmark for false positives

I've only just noticed as not used ESET for months until this week that the Android figure has gone, probably to find work elsewhere, maybe here as The BOT ! (obviously in disguise)
:D
All the classics are disappearing... first were the pig squeak from Kaspersky the "Your virus definitions have been updated" from Avast... now we lost ESET's Andoid... What are we going to lose next? :alien:

Out of interest I bought a 1 user 2 year license for ESET HOME Security Premium significantly cheaper than from ESET UK using a German site I've used for many years, no problems! + They accept PayPal unlike ESET UK.

Looks like their prices have gone up since I last looked!

Edit: actually, no they haven't. Think I was looking at the wrong listing!
