ExplorerPatcher, a popular UI-tweaking app for Windows 11 among enthusiasts, has been updated to a new version with several important changes. 22621.4317.67.1 is now available on GitHub with fixes for the non-working Win X menu on certain Windows 11 builds, Start menu crashes when opening context menus, and other improvements.

Here is the official changelog:
  • Taskbar10: Win+X now works again on 226xx.4317+.
  • Start10: Fixed an issue where the resource loader failed when the drive letter of the boot drive is other than C:.
  • Start10: Fixed an issue where the Start menu crashes when summoning the context menu of an item that has jump list entries on builds 226xx.4391+ and 261xx.2130+.
  • ep_taskbar: Fixed an issue where "Not responding" windows are not handled properly.
  • ep_taskbar: Flashing taskbar items are now animated.
  • ep_taskbar: Narrator now describes the "Show desktop" button.
  • ep_taskbar: TrayUI class is now exported.
  • Localization: Added translations for Portuguese (Brazil).

A few days ago, I started utilising EP. I didn't know I had previously installed SAB (it came pre-installed through a customised Windows 11 OS), and I was experiencing slight lag, and the calendar in the tray wasn't supported with it. After the recent OS build 26100.7171, SAB stopped supporting the top taskbar, and whilst I was seeking a solution, I discovered this software, which works like a charm with Open-Shell.
BTW, contrary to a few folks' reports, MD never flagged this.

    • Please update EP as soon as possible to ensure future updates run smoothly, otherwise explorer.exe will not run with EP's 10 taskbar and StartMenuExperienceHost.exe will not run when 10 Start menu is selected.
    • Those builds have removed remnants of the 10 Start menu in StartTileData.dll. Consequently, the 10 Start menu option has been removed on those builds and future builds without the required stuff in the DLL. (bf36cde, 8a5b8ba)
      • If you want it back, the temporary solution would be to manually swap C:\Windows\System32\StartTileData.dll with a version from 26xxx.8457 (x64; ARM64). But do not expect this to work for long.
      • We are confident that this is not the end of the road yet for 10 Start menu. Stay tuned for updates.

  • Introduced a re-implemented 10 Start menu tile layout engine that was removed in 26xxx.8474. (688514f)
    • Note that the restoration is partial. Tiles can overlap when pinned via the Pin to Start option (doesn't happen when dragging items from apps list to the pinned area), this can be worked around by restarting StartMenuExperienceHost.exe or explorer.exe as a whole to repair the layout.
    • Stay tuned on #4960 and the official Discord server for updates.
  • Added an executable name blacklist to prevent shell extension from loading in certain applications. (#4819) (991b8ca)
