Fedora Linux 45 is now available for download as the latest stable version of this RPM-based, Red Hat-sponsored modern GNU/Linux distribution for the masses.

Coming six months after Fedora Linux 44, the Fedora Linux 45 release is powered by the Linux 7.2 kernel series and features the latest GNOME 51 desktop environment by default for the flagship Fedora Workstation edition, and the latest KDE Plasma 6.8 desktop environment by default for the Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop flavor.

Highlights of Fedora Linux 45 include fully reproducible package builds, kmscon as the default VT console, signature checking enabled by default for RPM default package verification mode, image-builder disk images for Fedora Atomic desktops, and a new WebUI installer on all Fedora Atomic ISO images.

Fedora Linux 45 also brings web-based remote installation support for Fedora Atomic desktops, enables systemd-oomd and zram swap by default for Fedora CoreOS, adds GRUB EFI support for confidential computing, adds PAM support in chpasswd and newusers, and adds IPv6 support in NetworkManager.

Among other changes, Fedora 45 relocates all packaged RPM repository configuration data from /etc to /usr, adds LibreOffice help packages in HTML and noarch, switches the default Secrets Service provider for Fedora desktops from KWallet and GNOME Keyring to oo7, restricts ptrace by default, and disables vendor change by default for DNF5.

Under the hood, there are many up-to-date GNU/Linux technologies, including GCC 16.2, GNU Binutils 2.47, GNU C Library 2.44, GDB 17.2, LLVM 23, Go 1.27, RPM 6.1, Perl 5.44, OpenSSL 4.0, Lua 5.5, Python 3.15, IBus 1.5.35, MySQL 9.7, MariaDB 12.3, Ruby on Rails 8.1, Podman 6, Erlang 27, Pandas 3, Fontconfig 2.18, and others.

You can download Fedora 45 right now from the Fedora mirrors as live ISO images with various popular desktop environments, including GNOME, KDE Plasma, COSMIC, Xfce, LXQt, LXDE, Cinnamon, Budgie, MATE, and many others. Existing Fedora Linux 44 users will be able to upgrade their installations to Fedora Linux 45 using DNF system-upgrade.
