Firefox-34-Stable-Arrives-with-Default-Yahoo-Search-Google-Takes-a-Back-Seat-466270-6.jpg

Mozilla has announced that a new point update has been made for its browser, which is now at version 34.0.5. The devs have made quite a few changes, but the main features seem to be the new default Yahoo search engine, which has replaced Google.

It was just a matter of time until Yahoo replaced Google as the default search engine in Firefox and it looks like Mozilla has been quick to make the change.

The announcement regarding this modification was made just a couple of weeks ago and users have been expecting to see Yahoo as default in Firefox 35.x, but Mozilla released a new point update for Firefox 34.x, and along some other new features and fixes, the new Yahoo search function reigns supreme.

The latest Firefox update is pretty interesting, in and of itself, and the devs could have made turned this into a much more important version, but for now we're still stuck with the 34.x branch. It's not all that unusual, but it's a good idea to upgrade your browser as soon as possible.
Yahoo is default, but not for everyone
Getting a new default search option might seem like a big deal, but it's actually not. This option can be changed with just one click because Google is still provided.

The reverse side of the coin is that many users won't do this simple step and they will continue, unknowingly, with Yahoo, although it's not nearly as good as the previous solution. The silver lining is that only the users in North America will see a change, the rest of the world, with a few exceptions, will continue with Google.

The branch has received a number of interesting new features, like a better search bar, also only for users in the United States, the Wikipedia search function is finally using HTTPS for a much better connection, a new real-time communication client called Firefox Hello has been added, and the SSLv3 protocol has been disabled.

It will take a while for the new version to get into the repositories and some of them will get it sooner than others. Unless you are in US, you shouldn't see any major differences. If your searches in the address bar are redirected through Yahoo, just click in the search bar on the small drop-down menu and change it to Google.

illumination

Yahoo with its cluttered homepage and powered by Bing search does not even come close with the power of searching compared to Google. As much as many do not like Google, it is hard to deny for any that Google is just good at what it does. I will be sticking with Google search myself.

From the first place, Yahoo website cannot be look as a search engine website perhaps separated sections unlike Google's website style is simple yet its already displayed what users really do.

Its just a first move for Yahoo to try things to convince on using those products in such way. (partnerships)

I've tried to change it to Google and it looks like what Jack posted above.
To get to the search settings click the magnifying glass to the left of the word "search" then click "change search settings from the popup. From the dropdown make sure "GOOGLE" is there as in the image below.Untick everything else as in the image below .Then click OK

I am sticking with Google. You can Modify it through the options. I also set my homepage to the https:// version of Google.com

I have found yahoo in general (particular their webmail to be slow, and have not the best performance).

I hate Mozilla did this, however they probably needed a good source of revenue.

Recently, I have bookmarked the search engine I use most, Ixquick, but have also been warming up to duckduckgo's non-java search. I noticed the 'duck' was available on FF's selection of engines that conduct searches.;) Truth be told, all this talk of Google may just bring me 'round to using the Big G once more!:D
Otherwise, if Yahoo or even Google isn't your proverbial cup O' tea, you can still have whichever search engine you like using more.
Coincidentally, that is just what I did here on a newly installed FireFox 34.0.5 this very night, to go with Manjaro KDE which I've been experiencing in a Virtual Box VM, actually prior to my even happening upon this thread!:)

In Spain continues being Google.
Yesterday I installed Antergos Gnome (the best Gnome that I have seen at the moment) and when installed Firefox i see it was coming with Google.
For the photos of Gene Simmons's daughter and other hot celebrates? Well, yeah, I'd rather not change it. But other than that, not really.
Hey man ! Mr. Steve Harris also has a daughter .

I think that Softpedia forgot to put a question mark in the heading. :D. So let me rephrase it: "Firefox 34 Stable Arrives with Default Yahoo Search, Google Takes a Back Seat"? and answer is surely not...at least for me.

My biased opinion:
I searched for a word "stars" and Google presented me the contents exactly what I wanted (Stars in the sky) :) but Yahoo gave its first preference to a rock band and reel world stars (which was definitely not on my mind).

So for me "Hail, Google!" :)
