Read this on a French web site.

"The Mozilla Foundation says it has signed an agreement with European search engine Qwant to make a special version of Firefox.

With Qwant, Jean-Manuel Rozan and Eric Léandri, respectively president and CEO of the company, want to offer a credible alternative against the dominance of Google. Launched in February 2013, the french engine became a European project.

The engine is relatively fast and relevant enough. For a given query, users get the results of the web, news and publications on community networks, all complemented by a series of photos.

Mozilla, whose earnings are closely linked to search engines configured by default, announces to got close to Qwant, to design an " optimized Firefox version to use Qwant ". The engine is so configured by default.

Both put forward their common values aimed at protecting the privacy of Internet users "by refusing of (the) track to each of their clicks and defending the strict neutrality of the results of research."

This version of Firefox has also a button to access the functionality of the search engine in particular books, Favorites, the activation of protection against the tracking, or the control settings account..."

This is what they claim, and more security (no google spy :p - Google analytics, etc)

Presently I use Bing search engine. I will test this Firefox version as soon as possible.

Yeah I have been trying to use goodsearch.com to give some extra money to some charities but didn't want to slow down my browsing experience. :)

They claim more security and not spying and being an alternative to google? If I hear something like that, the first search engine that comes to my mind is DuckDuckGo, so what do they have more than DDG?
I've never heard of this search engine, so I took a quick look. I'm not impressed enough to use it as my main search engine and the search results are not as good as google of DDG, but I hope it's worth to keep an eye on in the future.

It was first a french search engine and now an European project.
I'm curious to see if it's really a work between Qwant and Firefox to make both optimized to work together, or only a simple 'add' of a new Search engine to get money from Qwant

The layout itself of Gwant is really nice putting aside the search algorithm.
I like the layout too.
But I wonder if adding the Qwant extension directly from normal Firefox version changes something

Or maybe a Firefox optimization with the Gwant "Tracking Protection".
This "shield" near the URL, when a tracking attempt is detected, exists in normal version ?
(I use another Browser since several months, don't remember have seen it before)

Well you cannot really defeat Google Search engines in huge circumstances, only privacy issues which it [Google] will never change the way does hence other alternative will take the lead.

I understand the joint project of Firefox since privacy is important to them but of course the impact will just increase very minimal impact to users.

I agree that it may be very difficult to fight against the "Big" Google.
I am one of the persons who don't use Google Search engine  (I HooOpe Oone DayY...)

The "Protection against tracking" only appears for this Firefox version with Qwant.

qwant.jpg

I tested installing only the Qwant extension on chromium based Browser => only Search engine available
vivaldi.jpg

So it seem to be a real cooperation.
