With just over three weeks until the launch of Windows 10, preview builds are still popping out left, rights, and center -- some more official than others. Microsoft is beavering away on the final build which will start to roll out on 29 July, and it seems that the RTM version could be signed off as early as this week.

Build tracking site BuildFeed shows that Windows 10 Build 10176 from the th1 branch (a reference to threshold, Windows 10's codename) is now being tested as a release candidate. With a full build string of 10.0.10176.16384.th1.150705-0552, the appearance of this version ties in neatly with a rumor that RTM might be reached this week -- perhaps as early as Thursday.

It has been suggested that the screenshots of the leaked build 10163 contain a hint at when RTM might happen. Wzor's screenshots include an image of the Calendar app which shows 9 July as RTM Sign-Off day. Of course, Wzor is not an official source, but as a leaker has a near-impeccable record of reliability.

With the recent acceleration in build releases, it's possible that Windows 10 Build 10176 will be released to Windows Insiders to try it out for themselves. Even if this does not happen, it's clear that Microsoft is now every much on the home straight, busying itself with the final nips and tucks before the big day rolls around.

Then we wait for the BSOD's and other such error's - that's why I am sticking with 8.1.
heh...you lost me completely at "8" :)

I've had no BSODs...10 has been pretty smooth--not without quirks in the new stuff, namely "modern" apps but that's pretty much it. Nothing show-stopping or catastrophic. I never ran Vista or 8 and I recommend 7 --> 10 as a good move. 8 --> 10 is a no-brainer

I am running 10 on my ex-Win 7 machine and everything has been plain sailing more or less, a few glitches but that is to be expected when using a beta. I will be sticking with 10 on that machine and changing my Win 8.1 desktop and laptop when the initial flood of updates is over.

BSOD's were pretty much problem that we cannot prevent, however the reason why Microsoft provides reservation tool is for checking in such incompatible hardware and software as might result to disruption of upgrading process.

In such theory, those newly purchased laptop/desktop/ and other gadgets should not provide errors as long no isolation problems that causes reboots or bad shutdowns.

In-place upgrade = asking for problems. period.

BSODs are totally preventable; they should only be caused by hardware faults and used to diagnose and remedy the problem immediately. Otherwise, you have some sub-par improperly-written software trying to run.

New builds are temporarily suspended, taken down:

Windows Insiders will be among the first to to snag the final RTM build, which our sources claim is build 10240. ISOs will be available again in the future, but for the time being, Microsoft is focusing on distributing the RTM build through Windows Update to stress test its release channel.

It is not clear when Insiders will be able to get the 10240 RTM build, however, we are inclined to believe it won't be too long from now.

Is it required to upgrade through windows updates? Or one can download ISO, extract & run the setup to upgrade?
I am on limited 10GB per month internet. Win 10 is app 3GB. If the second scenario can be done then it will save me 3GB i.e with the ISO I can upgrade & later clean install.

Windows 10 build 10240 is the RTM build

IT Home News Win10 official version will be released July 29, RTM candidate branch (ie th1 branch) development work is nearing completion. According to multiple sources, Build 10240 from th1 branch is likely that Microsoft's upcoming Windows10 official version. Of course, there can not be one hundred percent conclusions, does not exclude the emergence of variables, just as Win8 the same as Build 8888.
The latest version now Win10 Screenshot Build 10240 has been released, we look together:

Currently , Microsoft has changed Insider push TH1 branch channels , if nothing else, Microsoft Build 10240 is selected as the final version of it, the future will have the opportunity to receive Insider user push this version. Similarly, Microsoft to Win7 / Win8.1 users are also likely to push this version. Of course, that does not mean Win10 official release has been perfect, now Microsoft has begun the next phase of "Redstone" newer development (ie th2 branch).
Look forward to it.
