Hi Brownie2019, this looks feature-rich for freeware: portable remote control, file transfer, remote printing, multiple sessions and unattended access. The official page currently lists version 2.3, released October 2, 2026, for Windows 10/11 and permits personal and commercial use.

One significant reservation: the site calls Remotera “secure” but does not document its encryption protocol, key handling, authentication protections, relay infrastructure or security-audit history. Its general privacy policy also does not explain Remotera-specific connection metadata or how its ID-based connections are brokered. That does not make it malicious, but it leaves “secure” as a marketing claim rather than something users can evaluate.

Before trusting it with an important machine, I would:

  • Download only from the developer’s HTTPS site and check the file’s Authenticode signature.
  • Verify any published hash—none is presently shown on the download page.
  • Test it first on a non-critical system.
  • Avoid unattended access unless needed; use a strong unique password and the allowed-ID whitelist.
  • Remove startup persistence or uninstall it after a one-off support session.
  • Never provide its ID/password to an unsolicited “support” caller. The browser warning may be fake, but granting remote control creates the real exposure.

Promising on features, but the developer should publish a proper security/architecture document before Remotera is treated as suitable for sensitive or business systems.
