It just gets worse.
Why are all these security products adding all this bloatware.?

No.
I shall give this humungous monstrosity a wide berth.

What do you mean "all these products"? G Data was always being among the weightest security suites (in mbs I mean)

Take a look at the size of some of the installers for security products and they are increasing annually.
Avast is nearly a 100mb download.
Comodo.200mb.

It is getting worse.

Avast will decrease weight of the installer significantly in upcoming version, and Comodo , IMO, has implemented some stuff into installer that most of users doesn't use actually, but whatever :D
In fact every new version of a new program is a little bit heavier in mb (in most cases). Have CCleaner for example or every other software. The new features are added and GUI's are more colorful and more beautiful. It is expected for software to be bigger in size over time, everything grows from software to hardware.

What it actually shows me is that protection by mere signatures is not good enough anymore because malware is increasing and thus so will signature databases.

Cloud databases are an option which will eliminate a lot of bloat.

I think that cloud databases are not the final solution as the computers will be unprotected when there is temporarily no internet connection.
In past, I was testing G Data, BitDefender, TrustPort and I didn't liked what I saw, BitDefender, as taken example, after installation and updating took ~ 1GB of space on the HDD, same for GData,( Program Files + Users + Program Data Folders).
Some companies, like ESET, have a different approach, you probably will never see ESET is downloading more than 20mb of update definitions, and I think that they are replacing definitions for the new ones for some time, keeping an old definitions as a backup and restore purposes and after some time they deleted it, which I personally prefer more :D

I think G-Data includes the signatures in the initial installer, hence the large download.

G-Data includes Bitdefender, right? What's their definition download size?

A lot of fuss over an unimportant matter. So some of you are still on a dial up and own a hard disks with 5 GB of space.
I don't get it.

Btw....new GDATA 2014 is an excellent product.Much lighter than previous versions.
