RE: my system config

For Windows 7 :

Other Free AV software :

Browsers Plugins :
This are a few plugins that will make your live more easy and confortable:

Virtualization:
Even if you submitted a file to virustotal.com and it said that it's clean , you'll need to run it in virtual environment because sometimes infection can be so new that security vendors don't have signs for it.

Virtualization software will allow you to browse the web or run another application in a completely safe environment. This is especially useful when visiting high-risk web sites, whether accidentally or deliberately, as the Web browser will be completely contained within the virtual enviroment, preventing any damage to your computer.
A sandbox can also be used to run any other applications which you think may be suspect - you can run the program inside the sandbox to determine whether or not it is safe while remaining completely protected against any malicious actions that it may try to carry out.
I strongly advise you to install Sandboxie and use it when you're browsing the Internet or running shady/unknown programs.
Alternately you can try BufferZone PRO (Free) , another great virtualization software.

Sandboxie (Free/Paid) - link
Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.

Always run suspicious of freshly downloaded files in a Sandboxie to verify that he download isn't compromised!Sandboxie will replicate perfectly your operating system so all the files should run without any problems in it.

RE: my system config

I strongly disagree. Using 2 or more AV will cause conflicts, especially when they are not designed to work with one another.

Avast as your current AV is sufficient enough, you could upgrade to Avast Pro or Suite to use 'SafeZone' for Safer Banking.

A DNS doesn't make Online Banking safer.

Yes, I realise that having 2 will cause conflicts (I'm not that thick). For your information Earth I was giving some other options that he can choose from. I don't see any problem with that.

Yes Avast is good, but you get some novice users that come here asking what is better or what other options can I take, so I say and suggest Avast, AVG, MSE (as free AV's) etc... so I gave some other options that if he/she ever wonders what are he has some others to choose from. Plus with MBAM Pro is also great with Avast.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free anti-virus program for Windows.

I wouldn't recommend him use MSE if he's a Basic user who gets infections Occasionally.

Anyhow, You're config is good for Basic knowledge and if you want, Like Earth said for banking, upgrade to Avast Pro or Avast Internet Security and use the safezone browser for your banking.

May be you can just use a single antivirus like Bit-defender total security and you are good to go

The OP already has avast. There is so need to suggest an antivirus.

P

Plexx

I see no problem in suggesting other AV's as opposed to the OP's choice as long as there is relevant information provided that doesn't simply involve personal opinion such as: Its free/Its good because I use etc.

My only suggestion to OP is:

Swap MBAM Pro from Real Time to On demand Scanner (disable Real Time protection).

Reason being:
*More resources used
*avast! Web Protection is well known to be good, so it will only delay your system when both avast! and MBAM kick in detecting the same infection.

Considering this:
Computer literacy skills: Basic
PC security risk to infections: Medium
How often do you get infections: Occasionally

You can set a weekly scan on MBAM just to be on the safe side.

Other than that, just ensure you are aware of your browsing habits :)

PS:
Not sure if Sandboxie for the user would be appropriate without proper guidance or a guide.
