Although Gears of War: Ultimate Edition hit the Xbox One in August 2015, the much anticipated PC version of the game has been released to the Windows Store, bringing some hefty system requirements with it. Being the first game to only be released through the Windows Store, one of the first games to support DirectX 12 (and the first to require it), as well as being being the first AAA title to be built on the Universal Windows Platform that Tim Sweeney has been discussing, there is a lot riding on this release for Microsoft.

Because of its reliance on DirectX 12, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Windows 10 has some steep system requirements, with a GeForce GTX 970 recommended, as well as strict software requirements such as the very latest Nvidia or AMD drivers and 64 bit Windows 10 Version 1511.

MINIMUM SPECS: OS 64 bit Windows 10 (v. 1511), Processor: Intel Core i5 @ 2.7Ghz / AMD FX 6-core, Memory: 8 GB RAM (2 GB VRAM), GPU: AMD R7 260x / NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti, HD Space: 60GB, DirectX12

RECOMMENDED SPECS: OS 64 bit Windows 10 (v. 1511), Processor: Intel Core i5 @3.5GHz+ / AMD FX 6-core, Memory: 8 GB RAM (4 GB VRAM), GPU: AMD R9 290X / NVIDIA GTX 970, HD Space: 60GB, DirectX12

IDEAL SPECS: OS 64 bit Windows 10 (v. 1511), Processor: Intel Core i7 @4GHz+ / AMD FX 8-core, Memory: 16 GB RAM (6 GB VRAM), GPU: AMD R9 390X / NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti, HD Space: 60GB, DirectX12

The steep requirements are largely related to the game being built on DirectX 12 and designed for the Xbox One, with its 6 accessible cores and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Windows 10 weighs in at a nearly 60 GB and costs $29.99 US.
