I just installed Comodo Firewall yesterday, and I am looking for any guidance with the settings. I have read the installation guide here at MalwareTips, and it was helpful, but I admit I am having trouble with configuration options. There seem to be conflicting ideas on what are the best configurations for CF across the internet, and I feel like I'm in a meat grinder of doubt with every decision.
I come over from using Private Firewall, which is still installed on the PC, and I may go back. I feel that CF is the better security solution for me, but the ease with which settings can be found and changed for individual processes in PF, especially for internet connections, is something that is testing my resolve when it comes to changing firewalls.
I was using PF with the pop ups set to occur with the larger pop up dialog containing all the information on the path of the initiator of the alert (and with no time out for decisions), and I have been especially attached to these internet connection pop ups. PF provides and alert with information on each attempted internet connection. CF seems to manage connection rules without any input from a user, but I miss the simplicity of denying any connection any time, like I had with PF. Especially nice for me has been the ability to block a connection once to see what happens or even at times to allow a connection once, when I am not certain the connection could be used in an undesirable way at a later time.
PF is out of development, so there is no hope for improvement with the program. That in mind can anyone offer any suggestions on how to deal with specific process rules and connection related settings in CF? I am learning the dialogs, generally, with the exception of the rules dialogs. Information on that would be helpful and also on the purposes of zones and zoning...
Any comparisons between PF and CF centering on how to achieve control over internet connections and process behaviors is really what I am ideally looking for. Anything to ease the transition.
