What is a good cross platform 2FA app with syncing functionality that I can use now that Authy is sunsetting the PC version?

I'm using an Android phone and a Windows PC.

Thanks in advance!

I recommend Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. Both are available on Android and Windows, and they're free, secure, and easy to use.

I would rather have a standalone 2FA app/service because I already have Google and Microsoft accounts. And I don't think they provide cross platform apps.

Hardware-based security key, compatible with all major platforms.

Just installed it and I think this app is really useful. I'm surprised it's hardly mentioned on the forum. And it seems to be quite unpopular, NPE has no data on the reputation of this app, Eset has very little data either.

Meanwhile:
+ OpenSource clients for all operating systems
+ Backup in their cloud and easy export for yourself
+ There is a locking of access to the application by OS tools

I think this is the best replacement for Authy after they dropped the Windows client.

I heard something about Authy a while ago, but now I forget... I have not used Authy on windows desktop but I do use Authy on iPhone iOS. Do I need to do something before I losing my 2fa login info?? I'm posting this and going to see what I find...

EDIT did not find much -- chatgpt said no issue with iOS...

I just recently almost lost my phone and realized I'd have a big problem with accounts since Authy is only on my phone, so I figured I needed something else that works on multiple devices with syncing between them. In general, there is no another problem with Authy.

Authy is a problematic choice for 2FA due to its data breach history, closed-source nature, and preventing official token exporting. They even closed their extensions because users found ways to export tokens, giving Authy the power to decide your access to tokens if they close shop, payment gate tokens, or ban access to your country/account. I strongly recommend avoiding Authy.

Instead, I suggest using Ente for mobile, desktop, and web. It's a superior solution, allowing for easy token exporting and importing(Also audited , E2E , sync and stuff). Bitwarden is an alternative for password management, but I have a sour taste for it when it comes to 2FA because of the "all eggs in one basket" concern. Another option is an Android-only (i forgot the name of it ) solution, but it lacks syncing capabilities, which can be a deal-breaker for many users. Fortunately, Ente, 2fas, and the Android option all enable users to freely export and import tokens, giving you control over your 2FA security.

@Slerion quick question: in your opinion alternative to Authy for iOS? (other than google)

fwiw, I read a few positive posts about 2FAS, but assuming I want to replace Authy with an alternative, I am reading you cannot really (or easily) move the data in Authy to any alternative device. Is my understanding correct, (correct more or less...) ??
