Hello! I’m new as a registered member of this forum's community, though I’ve been a regular reader here for perhaps eight years or more.
As for my background: I’m an average computer user. I’m no expert, but I’m familiar with various tools—both for optimizing Windows (which is the only OS I use for now) and for resolving issues with viruses, malware, and adware—knowledge I gained by visiting excellent forums like this one. I’m sticking with Windows 10, as Windows 11 doesn't run well on laptops with 8 GB of RAM. I try to be careful online—without being paranoid, as a long-time member of this community wisely teaches. Thanks, and feel free to ask whatever you’d like to know. Wishing health, peace, and blessings to everyone here.

It’s completely fine to describe yourself as an “average” user—most good security outcomes come from consistent habits rather than expert-level tweaking. Staying on Windows 10 is also a reasonable choice as long as it remains supported and fully updated.

A few practical, low-risk security habits that tend to work well
  • Keep Windows Update enabled, and update browsers, PDF readers, and other common apps promptly (many real-world infections rely on outdated software).
  • Use a reputable antivirus and leave it at mostly-default settings; avoid stacking multiple real-time AVs.
  • Use standard-user (non-admin) for daily activity when possible, and elevate only when needed.
  • Be cautious with “optimizer” and “registry cleaner” tools—some are fine, but many provide little benefit and can create instability. If you ever want feedback on a specific tool, sharing its exact name/version helps.
  • Backups matter more than almost anything else: keep at least one offline or cloud backup so ransomware or drive failure doesn’t become a disaster.

If you ever suspect malware or unusual behavior
  • Don’t try to “guess” if something is malicious—post details (symptoms, alerts, logs) in the appropriate help section.
  • For suspicious files/links, a safe first step is to submit to VirusTotal and share the link to the results (without claiming it’s definitively safe/unsafe based on one scan).

Muito obrigado! Se bem me lembro, você sabe muito sobre o antivírus Kaspersky. Eu uso o Kaspersky Standard; usei a versão gratuita por muito tempo. É um ótimo antivírus. Desejando-lhe saúde e paz.

If anything comes up, posting clear details usually gets the best help quickly, for example:
  • What exactly happened and when it started
  • Any exact alert text (AV, browser, Windows Security, etc.)
  • What changes were made recently (new software, extensions, updates)
  • Screenshots and/or relevant logs (only if requested by helpers)

Until then, keeping Windows and your main apps updated, running Kaspersky with default protections, and maintaining a good backup routine are the best “set and forget” steps.
