Do you think it would be cool for Google to create a high quality AV product?

I don't think so, Google is more focus on internet side of gathering analysis through Artificial Intelligence and other modern techniques of technology.

Owning of Virustotal and implementation of Safe browsing may just brought minor components to the possible bigger outcomes.

In fact from the article entitled " Human Brains could be connected cloud by 2030 " where Google and Facebook are aware to implement precautionary dangers of these possible 'hypothetical' concept.

As James has said, Google is more on the internet data related side of things. Anti-Virus from them would be cool because almost everything they make is seriously awesome. Although, they would seriously knock all the other competition out of the market.

Google will never build an Antivirus they created chrome os and that doesn't even need an antivirus and google can't make big profit from it there too many companies who sell av solutions.

More and more people realize that we don't need antivirus to be protected the browser can do perfect job and google know this.

Exactly this. Google has basically integrated Anti-Virus into Chrome, one of their most prized possessions.

Google won't waste time to create AVs, they are more oriented to create secure OS that won't need AVs , like Linux did and it is the way MS is taking.

Android (if non-rooted) is safe enough if you don't install unknown and fancy apps.

If the OS is safe enough , nobody needs a 3rd party AV.
It is why kaspersky and some started bashing MS and WinDef ; because their business is at risk.
When all users will be on Win10, security vendors will lose lot of incomes.

I don't know if an OS completely virus proof is even possible... There's always software flaws to be exploited....

It would be cool but that won't happen. I don't think it's useful either to them or to anyone else.
@Umbra Do you mean sudo or repositories?
