Google is baking its most aggressive security settings yet into Android 16, rolling out an ‘Advanced Protection’ mode aimed at blocking mobile malware exploits from commercial spyware vendors and scammers.
The setting, which resembles Apple’s iOS Lockdown Mode, bundles multiple safeguards under a single toggle and is aimed at journalists, officials and other high-risk users who have become prime targets for mobile malware implants.

Of course, they have a lot to lose; why the hell would they want agencies going to their competitors to get the keys to the kingdom without talking to Daddy first?

Yes it's self serving but anything that improves security for everybody is undoubtedly needed and welcomed. Why it took this long is the real answer, they knew 10 years ago this was an issue.
Of course, I would rather leave the keys to my kingdom with one owner and not 20. The devil you know.......

Using a 2023 Samsung phone (that was supposed to get updates up until Android 17) I still haven't got 15 yet. I will likely be long dead and my A34 will be in the landfill long before Android 16 ever gets here so I won't worry too much about "Advanced Protection Mode".

Sadly that's not Google's fault; that's up to Samsung and their competitive ecosystem.
