When I had my "incident" a couple years back - drunk downloading - the initial MBAM scan had something like 1,200 different things:eek::eek::eek:
Took me ages to get it all cleaned up properly and had to go to the Removal Assistance section to get the remnants all cleaned out, which is what brought me here in the first place! I ended up staying to learn more about security, etc and haven't had a reinfection at all since, apart from a couple of minor easily removed PUPs.

JUST REMEMBER ONE THING: DON'T DRUNK DOWNLOAD!!!!:p:p:p:D
My parents don't even allow me to drink.. lolz

Never on the Ransomware, I had a browser Jacked a very long time ago, but that's about it.
Unless you go back to a time when Dinosaurs roamed, back then I got a little nasty that kept populating notepad popups
that went on and on and on, no real damage but was very irritating. lol Remember those :p

My first ever infection is only from USB. That created so many shortcut and hide some of my files -_- seems want play hide and seek with me
since that I never infected, I always be careful. That was 11 or 12 years ago I think...
'Better safe than infected!'

My problems with malware were long before I joined this site.

The first infection I remember was Trojan/Trojans after visiting porn websites.

I remember having a rogue anti-malware on my system at some point. I think it was called "Anti-Spyware Doctor" or Anti-Malware Doctor."

My last infection was in 2011 after downloading a mod for a game resulting in my email at the time being compromised.

Edit: These were back when I was using older computers. I haven't been infected since buying a new computer in 2014 with Windows 8.1.

I've checked the last (bottom) selection, "Yes, but it didn't cause me to re-install"

Back in the year 2013, I'd arrived on the shores of MalwareTips fascinated by sure & confident advice shared freely which I could not get enough of! Although I was already using MBAM, I came to learn about additional secondary scanners including HitmanPro which flagged over :eek:300 questionable items on it's very first pass of our very cluttered desktop! I'd also followed Twinheaded Eagle's remedial cleansing program which removed assorted Adware, pups, and the detritus of years, to finally come away with an XP system that worked better than ever when all was said and done.:)
As a frequent flying member, I found myself staying up late with the computer rather than watching Television, and experienced learning by trial, 3rd party AVs, Firewalls, and incorporated sandbox virtualization, even dabbling in linux distros and am typing now from lubuntu which replaced our now retired XP! Since then my family's 3 online computers are each nimble and trouble free, and we have never as yet come face to face with Ransomware infection whilst browsing in Sandboxie when not moving about online in Shadow Mode!:) My wife, just today, ordered a new (refurbished) 17" Dell lap top from NewEgg which I've also come to know of thanks to members & staff here whom are the reason why "Tips" is the big second part of this wonderful site's name!:D

My last malware infection was some 10 or 12 years ago. I am not remembering exactly how now but I think my PC got infected while browsing the internet and got infected all of a sudden and by desktop were filled with porn stuffs and links to such sites:D that eventually prompted me to fresh install windows. Silly days :p

I had some infections the previous years but only one time i did a clean reinstall.
First time a system restore helped me just fine.
An Adware/PUP was also removed with system restore not long ago.
The only time i did a clean reinstall i was doing some testing with Comodo AV and i did something foolish so i had to to do a clean install.
The funny thing was that i wanted to do a clean install because my system was slow and i wanted to reinstall Windows to get rid of all the junk. Infection speed up things;)

Considering how little i used to know about security It's surprising I didn't get infected more, but the worst was several years ago, I think around 2010, something called 'Clean This' which seemed a very convincing copy (to me at the time anyway:D) of an official Microsoft program, and instructed me to click on it to remove malware, which I stupidly did. Eventually I was able to run MBAM and remove it. At the time I was just using Microsoft Security Essentials (next to useless) and Windows Vista Firewall (not much better).

I then registered with Bleeping Computer and one of their malware removal experts ran me through cleaning up my PC i also installed Avira free AV and Comodo Firewall. Many different security setups since but malware free.

So the two infection choices I checked were 'Ransomware (got it cleaned without paying)' and
'Yes, but it didn't caused a clean reinstall'.

I voted "Malware that damaged files on my system".

Cannot remember when and why or what it was exactly. Was about 13 or 14 years old at the time with no knowledge. Just focused on Guild wars. Whatever the malware was pretty much leveled my PC. Other than that i had some adware in the following years but nothing since then. I think this all happened around 2006 or 2007.

Actually it might of had something to do with the porn i had watched then. :D

I've never infected with a ransomware considering the fact where it's all about user responsibility.

1) Not entertained on solicited or unknown emails.
2) The area where I'm located is still low on prevalence of ransomware attacks
3) and lastly aware on what are do's and dont's, if wanted to test some thing then it can done properly in VM.

Back in 2006 or 2007 I got some Malware and I had to reinstall Windows on my old xp machine.
I had Norton Internet Security and scans found nothing. I never new about on demand scanners or adblock programs. I was a complete novice back then.

Browser hijacker and Astromenda, plus a few PUPs about 2 years ago - it's what brought me here!!:eek:
Seriously, the guys who write these things should be subjected to a horrible slow painful demise...:mad::mad:

Found remnants of one of these critters hiding DEEP in my system:eek::eek::eek: 2 and a half hours (and several beers) later - got rid of it and restored everything back to how I like it:) Now I need another beer but I've run out!:(
