The holiday shopping season is in full swing, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, and scammers have been getting ready to cash in from their fraud campaigns.
While some fraudsters target the online landscape fooling shoppers with lookalike domains, others focus on customers of brick and mortar retail stores.
The latter take advantage of the flood of legitimate discounts to trick potential victims into giving information that could be used for attacks all year round.

A few basic tricks one can test if curious and get a bit better overview, especially on new or unknown commerce sites. Links with tools is shared in the bottom of this post.
  • Check the sites/domain creation, and expiration date. If it's just a few days or weeks, it's a possible warning sign.
  • Avoid if possible purchase on so called Free CMS platforms, Wordpress etc. The news alone here on MT should be more then enough.
  • Check the certificate valid from and to date. But, just because it's valid and the padlock is green, is not automatic the same as a 100% secure and safe site. Chrome, recently adopted a bit different approach but, it's the certificates information one should check.
  • Search for reviews or ask here on MT.
