Advice Request Hostsman vs browser extension?

Is there any difference between using Hostsman or using a browser extension to block ads?
What are the pros and cons of each?
Which one do you recommend?

I would recommend to use a browser extension, for example you can use uBlock Origin: GitHub - gorhill/uBlock: uBlock Origin - An efficient blocker for Chromium and Firefox. Fast and lean., which is more light on resource than Adblock plus: https://adblockplus.org/, which is also good or blocking ads.

The difference is windows hosts will block ads in ALL browsers and certain apps and extensions are limited to the browser...I use both because the lists for hostsman doesn't block everything but it does a pretty good job.
