For example when you have cracks and you want to know if they're just cracks or instead full-on malware, how accurate is HitmanPro's results? iirc it works different from regular AVs like Kaspersky which I use

I used Hit-Man Pro for some years & never found anything but did cause issues with other AV's & have many false positives as I remember, so eventually gave up on it as IMHP its not with bothering with. Others may have differing experiences, it once was mentioned by a well known moderator on here when I gave my system spec 'Did it ever find anything?' I agreed with the sentiment - I don't use cracks so I can't comment on that aspect.

All of the on-demand scanners are aggressive, and throw false positive detections; that is why not recommended for day to day use, only in specific situations.
And then how would I know if they're right or false alerting?

There is something which I call 'steady state', which is having a golden image baseline OS with all sec tools installed. And then only installing approved apps as required. Steering clear of grey zones like p2p obtained apps. That is what good security Depends On.

If you venture into the grey zone, then all bets are off. And security tools won't help. Because hackers seed new malware for the unwary. They are taking advantage of your Greed.

If you can't afford a piece of software, then put it out of your mind. Just as I do not have Ferrari posters on my wall - I put it out of my mind cause I can't ever afford one.
