Choosing a good router with a network firewall is the best way to protect yourself.

However it is extremely rare for home users to get hacked, hackers target businesses where they can get a lot of info in one place like bank databases.

Hacking someone's system is a serious crime with stiff punishment, some countries will give a hacker a death sentence. Because most hackers will not waste time trying to hack an individuals system.

The only exception is if that hacker knows you and knows what kind of info they can get from your system, otherwise it is not worth the time and effort to hack someone's system that the hacker has no way of knowing if there is anything valuable for them to get.

It has been many years since there has been any news about a home users computer getting hacked, every news article about someone getting hacked only applies to businesses.

Still to be safe just in case, you should always have a router with a good firewall enabled. I recommend Cisco products since I have much better luck with their products and the firewall is very easy to configure.

Expert hackers can very easy bypass most personal firewall software by using vulnerabilities in both the personal firewall and OS related exploits.

The bottom line, if some hacker wants to hack your system, then the will find a way to get around whatever protection that you have. If you give out your personal details online then you can set yourself up to be a target for a hacker.

Enjoy!!:D

If the hacker is determined he will take you down especially if its hacktivism. Also they usually target high value people.
If you follow the above suggestions you are good to go
