Question How do I know for sure if an playstore app is malware-free?

Please provide comments and solutions that are helpful to the author of this topic.
If no AV vendor detects it, then at this point, you are only relying on their reputation, which can be researched. In my opinion, you can never be sure. Do remember that malware that slips through (or an app that becomes malware later) may have many favorable characteristics.

  • Only one app (not the one you are interested in) is rated well enough for personal use
  • The app seems to require lots of permissions; this may be typically Chinese. You should compare the permissions to similar apps.

If app has a lot of downloads and feedback, then it's most likely safe because Google would notice otherwise. Even if app is malicious, it can't do anything unless you allow them to do something. Read the permissions request and if you see that a simple game asks for camera and microphone permissions, then it should be a red flag.
