Dave from SC USA here. In addition to what I call a high tech redneck, I'm an anti-virus geek. I worked part-time in a lab for several years doing virus removal and other Windows repairs, but I no longer work in IT. Anyway, I've tried pretty much every anti malware product on the market over the past two years, in search of my perfect setup.
Things I want:
- Basic anti-virus always-on, on-access protection (i.e, no shredders, password managers, or other unnecessary bloaty features)
- Good detection rates
- Low memory footprint - about 65MB or less at idle (what Windows Defender uses)
Basically, I want a simple product that has better detection and uses less memory than Win Defender. Otherwise I'd just use that.

The closest I've found so far are Avira AV Pro and Panda Free AV. Also, the McAfee Cloud AV Beta fits the bill but it is reallly limited in its feature set. I use those plus some sort of website rating tool / malicious url filter tool such as Web Advisor fka Site Advisor (the most effective, IMO); Avira's Safe Browsing Plugin for Chrome; or similar. And then Malwarebytes for a weekly/monthly supplemental on-demand scan.

So, with that, hi, and would appreciate any suggestions from your experience on what I'm looking for above.

Nice to meet y'all
-Dave
