Huorong is a Chinese antivirus offering a totally free security suite.
Having done the BETA version, I'm keen to see what new features the publisher has to offer...
In this v6, Huorong offers AI Machine Learning detection (named Meteor), AMSI scanning, more advanced Ransomware detection and more.
Surprisingly, these new features are disabled by default! For the test, I decided to activate them.
User interface :
Goodbye ugly beige interface, hello fresh and new!
Huorong's interface is modern and, above all, much cleaner than version v5.
However, the publisher has kept its 2 guns: Simple for novices and full of additional configurations for security-minded geeks.
The software is as light on RAM consumption as ever.
Web protection: 5/8
In terms of Web protection, Huorong will miss 3 malwares, including 1 blocked by HIPS but active...
Some links died too, but that was enough to infect the machine.
Fake crack : 1/1
Huorong detects the files installed by the fake crack.
Malware Pack : Remaining 20 files out of 130.
Despite some blocking with its HIPS and advanced protection (ADV detection), the machine ends up highly infected, as Huorong lags far behind in script and injector detection.
Worse still, during the test, Huorong let the W32.Semoval virus infect all the files on the machine!
Huorong will fall into the trap as it begins to detect files that have been infected without being able to fight the process in progress.
It's a shame.
Final scan :
Huorong : 4
Malwarebytes : 13
Autoruns : 2
NPE : 12
KVRT : 37 (Infection in memory ! + W32.Semoval activity)
Final opinion:
Huorong offers protection that can be interesting, but with options that are not exploited to their full potential.
For example, not all new features are activated by default, so I had to activate them myself to push the antivirus to its limits.
I've also noticed that the anti-malware section is a little slack. The machine is very infected, much more so than during the BETA test!
They're making an effort, but it's still not enough...
