Could not Perform Farbar Scan:
-Was able to download the 32 bit verison; then it wold me it was the wrong system, and advised me to try the 64 bit
-Was unable to download the 64 bit version. AVG detected it as a threat; I ignored the threat and tried to proceed. However, my “view downloads” communicated that the program “could not be downloaded”.
Could not Perform ASMBWR:
-software was on my desktop
-downloaded avast database
-During scan, computer went to blue screen with white print; (data dumping type scren)
-Computer restarted; did not choose safe mode; jsut opened normally

Please advise if you have next steps to recommend.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop

Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
Confirm "End user Licence Agreement" and "KSN Statement" dialog box by clicking on Accept button.
  • Under Additional options check the boxes next to:
    - Verify Driver Digital Signature;
    - Detect TDLFS file system
    - Use KSN to scan objects
  • Press Start Scan
  • If Suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • If Malicious objects are found, select Cure.

Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\ ,for example, C:\TDSSKiller.<version_date_time>log.txt

Please post the contents of that log in your next reply.

Download attached fixlist.txt on the same location as FRST (otherwise the fix won't work)

Open FRST, and click Fix. Attach me that report after it is finished.

Then...

1. Please download ComboFix by sUBs from here and save it to your Desktop.
If you are unsure how ComboFix works please read this guidehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix carefully.
Note: ComboFix must be downloaded to your Desktop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Temporarily disable your AntiVirus program.
If you are unsure how to do this please read http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f50/how-to-disable-your-security-applications-490111.htmlthis or this Instruction.

Note: Do not forget to turn on this option after the cleaning.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Run ComboFix. Click on I Agree!

ComboFix will check if there is a newer version of ComboFix available.
Click Yes if prompted to download.
ComboFix will display DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY ON SOFTWARE.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue.
If Recovery Console is not installed, ComboFix will offer download & installation.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to install Recovery Console.
Note:Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running.
If you see a message like "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion" just restart computer once more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
4. When the tool is finished, it will produce a log report for you. (typical location: C:\ComboFix.txt )
Attach log reports ( ComboFix.txt) back to topic.

We only need to remove used tools :)

Please download DelFix by "Xplode" to your Desktop.

Run the tool and check the following boxes below;
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge System Restore

Now click on "Run" button. Wait for the programme completes his work.
All the tools we used should be gone.
Tool will create and open an log report (DelFix.txt)
Note: The report will also be stored on C:\DelFix.txt

> I don't need DelFix log report.

This aciton is complete, and the tools are gone. This however sparks another quesiton for me. I was on this forum once before for a simialr problem. Against my best interest, I stopped following instruciton once the problem was fixed. It is clear I should have stayed engaged in the end.

I still have "tweaking.com windows re[air" and "Malware anti malware" on my desk from a previous issue. Can I jsut uninstall/delete? Or is there a different approach I shuold take?

Thread is:
Windows Security Center Service Can't be Started (2nd Thread) (Sept 22, 2013)
