The iPhone 12 is hitting shelves soon, but a teardown of the handset has happened even earlier.
Published on Weibo, the video shows how the construction of the handset compares to that of the iPhone 11.
The iPhone 12 uses an L-shaped logic board, which is longer than that of the iPhone 11. Conversely, the iPhone 12’s OLED screen is thinner and the iPhone 12’s Tapic Engine vibration motor is smaller. Overall the device is 11% thinner, 15% smaller and 16% lighter than the iPhone 11.
The video also reveals the iPhone only has a 2815 mAh battery, which is less than the 3110 mAh in the iPhone 11, possibly due to the space taken up by the MagSafe system.
One of the interesting findings of the teardown was that the 5G model in the device was the older Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem, introduced in February 2019, rather than the newer February 2020 5nm Qualcomm Snapdragon X60, which is 30% more power-efficient.
Recent reports suggest major hit on battery life when using 5G on the iPhone 12, and sheds new light on Apple’s selective 5G activation “feature”.
