I add rad.msn.com to blocked sites in Internet Settings (might differ, mine is not English) and the ad in the main window does not show up anymore, though it's place is still there, and text ads in chat windows are not gone.

Thank you. I added this to Restricted Zone in IE Settings. +Rep. :D

If I wasn't clear (messed up sentence), it only makes the main window's ad go away, not the text ads in chat windows.

You can block using Host File without any third party programs. And perhaps goes also for Internet Settings in IE just remove the numbers.

I don't see either Text or Flash Ads now. I don't mind the empty box either.

That A-patch is safe. There was registry way too to get rid of the ads. Dont remember as I dont use Messenger.
