I am considering trying out some of the commercial DNS providers which claim to filter malware and advertisements. Services such as NextDNS, ControlD and Quad9. I thought they might help to tighten up security- especially some of my IoT devices such as security cameras. Its not always clear how these services compare, or if they actually live up to their claims. I suspect some of it depends on where they get their filtering lists from and how up-to-date these are. There doesn't seem to be much independent testing of these services. This forum contains private individual's experiences of using some of them, but these accounts are difficult to compare. Do any independent labs ever check DNS providers?
