Question Is this a free alternative of Hard disk sentinel?

I don't think it has all the features of Hard Disk Essential, and it's still in its first version. If you find CrystalDiskInfo too basic, you can check out GSmartControl, it displays more information.

I looks like it runs in the background?

I use CrystalDiskInfo a long time ago, but it lacks some data in this app and in Hard disk sentinel.
I have scanned the installer with Avast, with no detection.
But after upload to VT, it was labeled by Deep instinct and Google!

Did not try it yet after being labeled on VT.
I do not run HD utilities in the background; only run once at the start of day to get sure there are no new issues, then close.

Does not show stats for performance like that one and Hard disk sentinel, only health.
