I was scrolling twitter and all of a sudden my screens go black for a few seconds and then when they go back to normal I get a popup saying antivirus has been turned off. I looked for the Kaspersky app, and it doesn't show in the tray or that it's installed on my pc via searching in the search bar. Tried to reinstall, and then it says I have a newer version installed already on this pc, and then not long after it randomly pops up saying it's been updated.

This isn't normal behavior for Kaspersky updates. It sounds like there may be a conflict or corruption in your installation. Try uninstalling Kaspersky completely, restarting your PC, and then reinstalling it. If the problem persists, contact Kaspersky support for further assistance.

Maybe Kaspersky was updating in the background and a new version was installed. Have you tried restarting the system? @harlan4096 is the Kaspersky expert here. Maybe he can help.
It's weird because I didn't have to restart. When it said the app had been updated it just went back to normal, so I was wondering if that black screen thing is normal as it scared me because it was out of the blue lol

I had some problems with Kaspersky not being started with windows many times, and sometimes it runs simultaneously with Microsoft Defender in the same time, I tried to reinstall and restart the system but nothing changed, so I removed it in the end, by the way I was using the free version, I don't know about the premium one.
Never had this problem with Kaspersky. Have u contacted support?

No but it is not just me who noticed this, I remember @brambedkar59 had this problem too, and it is in Kaspersky forum:

Well, I can confirm that the device on which I am running MB Premium (with the register in security centre option checked) the Antimalware Excutable Service is running. On the device running Emsisoft Business Security, that service is not running.

I think it's normal if it only happened once during Kaspersky update. I remember installation screen warning about possibility of screen going black (don't remember the exact words) and audio cutting off while Kaspersky Free in being installed. Although it never happened on my device, but I think it's normal if Kaspersky already warns about it. So, restart the system and see if it does that again. And someone mentioned on MT that Kaspersky protection is turned off while it updates, so Security Center warning about protection being off is also normal.

Easily fixed with DControl or GPedit.

If you disable MD with one of these tools, will MD be enabled automatically after uninstalling the security product? If that is not the case these tools should not be recommended to users bc if they uninstall the security product, their system will be left unprotected.

No, it won't. User has to enable Defender again.

Anyone changing settings inside GPedit should know that already, it's not something to play with just like registry.

Either way, installing a security product should automatically disable MD, if that does not happen, one should contact support.

Good luck with that on the Free version.
Edit: I remember last year I posted on Kaspersky forum for issue of Context Menu scan not appearing in Win 11 while using the older context menu. It's still not fixed yet after one year. I moved to Win 11's new context menu just because of that.

I remember this issue too, but I think I fixed it by uninstalling Kaspersky first, this I run Wise Registry Cleaner and delete (Invalid Context Menu Items), it was because when you remove Kaspersky it leaves remnants that conflict with it when you reinstall it again, it is strange.

I did same and that fixed the issue for a while, but it came back after next update was installed. I moved to new context menu of Win 11, so I don't care about that anymore. I posted just to show state of K forum for free version.

Maybe your GPU had been updated at the same time, because this happens (screens go black for a few seconds) when GPU update.
