VMware Player Free is fairly limited in comparison to it's alternate, VirtualBox VM which allows for multiple snapshots and various OS guest installs. The paid version is VMware Player Plus, however, most prefer the Workstation version.

VMware Player Plus vs VMware Workstation (v9,10,11): http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/compare

You can download a free, 30-day trial that is available for Windows and Linux:
http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/workstation-evaluation

If you prefer, you can buy Workstation v10 now (£190) and get v11 for free in December, see details:
https://www.vmware.com/products/wor...WWW_Workstation_US_HPHero_DiscoverWorkstation
(Note: v11 requires a 64-bit CPU and 64-bit OS)
For the Promo above, see the Licensing FAQ: http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/faqs/licensing.html

@Malware Test You should consider creating a Windows OS system image, so you can rollback any changes, both built-in or third-party applications should do the job. For recovery sake, use both.

VMware Workstation is almost the de-facto standard in virtualisation. If you look at professional computer security researchers, most use Workstation for the functionality it provides. Just don't install the additional tools and you will be perfectly safe.

Btw, I actually think Workstation is safer than VirtualBox because of certain things I observed about VirtualBox.

Used it a bit but was laggy for my FX-8350 compared to virtual box. So I'm stick to VB

PD: VMware is safe to use :p

Of course its safe to use, the difference is a full pledge virtualization software with full hard coding to avoid any vulnerabilities.

Tested the free version before but rather to stick on an open source ;)

Last I checked, no but the old work around was using vmrun from workstation to create the snapshots.
Don't know if it still works tho.

Edit: vmplayer allows only 1 snapshot.

Can you show me how to make it ?
If I recall correctly, this is the command, based on the Document. I only used Workstation in the past so things might have changed since I last used.

$> *vmrun -T ws \path\sourcefile.vmx \path\targetfile.vmx full -cloneName=NameOfTheClonedVM*

Easy method is copy the VM folder in windows explorer

Another easy way is get Virtual Box instead.
