RE: Lavasoft Ad-Aware 10 (5P)

Very interesting the only difference in the Free version compared to the Personal Security is:

* Safely Shop and Bank Online
* Stay Safe on Social Networks

Personal Security is for only $1 per month.

Pro Security (Security Suite) is for only $3 per month.
I'm guessing they are still using Privatefirewall for Firewall and Intrusion Protection.

It all sounds too good to be true.

Thanks.:D

Dashke, much better? As in less drag on PC performance, improved detection, what about any new features brought down from the Paid to Free version?

Cheers :D

Many technologies which were previously reserved for the commercial editions only are now available in the free build, for instance. So real-time process protection will detect and block malware before it can launch; Registry protection looks out for potentially risky Registry changes, and real-time network protection blocks connections to blacklisted IP addresses. Ad-Aware 10 Free gains advanced rootkit protection, too, and the new (to this edition) Game Mode means the program can maintain all this without hassling you with extra alerts.

It pretty good free solution. :)

Thanks for the review. I found a download link as it seems Lavasoft it not yet released it.
I tried it and it is superfast. Here's my mini-review:

It looks like they really slimmed down the whole installation (Small Stub installer + 80Mb total on disk) which is about half the size of AVG/Avast.

UI is clean though I am not too happy with color scheme. Very easy to use and options clearly laid out. Makes all of the decisions for you which is really nice when I install it on my in-law's computers :)

Quick scans are super fast (almost scary fast). Full scans are a little slower than competition (took 10 minutes more than Avast - same speed as AVG). Though it really performs a deep scan of the system. I think some AVs skip some files to lower the scan times.

The new features really make it compete against all free antivirus (real-time protection, download protection, sandboxing and all) and I would even say makes it compete with most paid antiviruses as well. There's not much reason to go out and pay for one IMO.

The best thing: I just can't feel it. It's super fast. It uses less than 1% of my CPU when scanning. This has NEVER happened before.

I'm keeping it! Thanks!

I totally agree!

Good anyone try to add adware in comodo's AV exclusion and see if the two av can run along each other? it is possible with the previous one.

I wouldn't recommend trying that. Read through page 1. Ad-Aware Free includes ("Advanced") realtime protection now like in the paid versions. Cool, eh?

All positive feedback so far, so could anyone get a product review and test of Ad-Aware 10 Free?

Thanks :D

Ok, so here is my little review -
Installer is very small and installs very fast. Just in a few click you have antivirus on your computer in about 5 minutes.
After installation system boots as fast as without antivirus.
It uses about 27MB which is very low, you can't even feel it but it still protects you. :)
Detection is very high - about 97% of files from my collection are detected.
Quick scan took only 1 minute and 20 seconds and my system is pretty bloated!
For me, it's the best free solution available.

P.S. It's beta, it haven't been released officially yet.

Also AFAIK there some products that Gdata Engine was used, likely in Total Security version something.

I'm surprised by the number of good reviews. Me and a friend had stopped using Ad-Aware years back because it got so bad, but I might have to check it out now since it's been updated.

Anyone know when the stable release will be available?

Yeah, they made such improvements that it's just crazy! :)
They say very soon, I am expecting next week...

According to MajorGeeks v.10.0.138.2879 is the latest and it says nothing about it being a beta release.

But Download Crew has a later version. v.10.0.155 Beta.

So far I don't see any downloads for v.10 on Lavasoft website.

Yes I'm very interested in trying it out once it goes final.
Ad-Aware went down the drain over the years, I would like to see it get back on track.

Thanks.:D

Yeah, they really announced that they will release it on 7th February, but then changed their plans because they found serious bug. MajorGeeks and Download Crew weren't aware of the delay so they published news about release of 10th version. :/
