Question Lightest AV

Hello everyone,
i'm currently looking for the lightest AV on the market the only real performance tests i could find are on AV-comparatives, using it for gaming and working from home and want it to be as light as possible wonder what your experiences are, currently using Kaspersky, but also got licenses for Norton/BD.

Avast, custom install, only 2 modules behaviour engine and av.
If you want to go 1 step further you can uncheck E and F but you will lose some security, anyway I don't think it will affect to gamming performance.

In av comparatives enterprise the corp product of avast is the faster one because it doesn't include all the crap of a full installation, therefore if you only install those 2 modules should be the best option.

Hmm, Which Avast version is this, the premium or free tier?
Never tried Avast tbh, just want it to be non intrusive and mostly set & forget with decent protection ofc

Upvote this advice: when you enable hardened mode in file shield, you could even decide to skip installing the behavior module.

The lightest av I know is Panda but I wouldn't recommend that one because in terms of protection it is really low and you would be better protected with Windows Defender.

And what others are not saying rightly so IMO, by omission, is BD (even the free version) with its multiple running processes and sporadic high memory use.

I found a noticeable 5-8% drop in cpu intensive performance with AVG IS a couple years ago. 3D Mark benchmarks were noticeably lower as was cinebench, which was reflected in games and Handbrake (my main CPU use cases).

Yes.
Defender will request more when it analyzes the file for the first time.
But Defender's system scans are certainly faster than AVG's, but also more resource-intensive....

Kaspersky is both light and has good protection, id recommend staying with it.

If you have paid Kaspersky, you can just run HIPS and Sys Watcher. Good protection as HIPS blocks known threats and Sys Watcher is *probably* the industries best behavior blocker.

Also have a F secure license somewhere what would you recommend Kaspersky or f secure ? Where the main focus is performance.

Both are excellent, but F-Secure is lighter than Kaspersky.

Especially since F-Secure doesn't have a firewall module but ties in with Windows firewall. Which I would assume helps make it lighter.

In my machine Norton is the lightest antivirus that I tested, even lighter than ESET NOD32, but you should try for yourself, every system is different.
