Yeah, why don't you try cracking a 50 random characters password on an encrypted PC with normal CPU and a BIOS password?

I don't know anyone using a 50 random password (though you personally might) and the other point made is also easily bypassed. All you have to do is Google it. And Picture Password is also easily bypassed.

Haha, you're right, there's nothing that is 100% secure, but i guess not everyone who will steal his PC will do these tricks. BTW with a picture password i don't care about the length of the password, it can be 75 as well. And i don't think you'll crack the directions of the picture password.

In the absolute , everything can be bypassed, what matters is the time the bypass needs. Breaking-in a system without a login password take 1 second; doing so with a protected one is not as fast.

taking an analogy , it is more difficult to enter a house with an armored door than one with no locks.

Yeah maybe not everyone that would steal his PC would do these tricks, but it can be done and all you need is Google to get you on the road to doing it. Picture Password, again use Google to see it's easily bypassed.

If the person is pressed for time this is true, but if they are not this can be done at one's leisure especially if it is stolen. Install Prey with a guest account I think is good advice...

Nothing is absolute. The bottom line is, it is harder and takes more time to get into a system password protected. Advising users to use a login password as opposed to not using one is good security practice and advice in a forum that solely exists as security advising.

Arguing all day long that someone can break into your house, take the computer home with them, or simply just bash the system with a sledge hammer makes little difference to the fact that a system is more secured password protected.

I'd skip the door and go through the window. :) And if there were no windows I'd wait until they went on vacation and then start working on that armored door :)

@Azure Phoenix very interesting software you proposed there i think i will give a try.
To be sure the program will work correctly. I highly advised to whitelist/exclude it from all antivirus/hips/anti-exec you might have.

Also test it first before enabling the start with windows and lock. For example once you have put a password, you can click on "lock pc"(or you can right-click on the icon on the taskbar and click 'lock computer'.
If everything worked correctly, your pc should be locked and you will see a prompt asking you to enter a password.

@Azure Phoenix thanks for the advice.
By the way every time i test a new program i always do it with Shadow Defender enabled
so if something goes wrong i do a restart and everything is back as it was before testing;)
