Dude nobody's going to hack you... god damn if your so afraid then why do you carry a phone or credit card or any form of digital things that connect to other devices or the internet. Just quit worrying, you don't need air tight security, that isn't a thing and never will be for forever, there's no such thing as bulletproof security.

Thank you for your reply.

I am just overly concerned regarding my offline laptop I use as backup-hub. And I want to make sure and somehow conclude, that it can't get hacked and the data destroyed or manipulated.

There is absolutely no need to be concerned. Literally none.
All the methods to hack air-gapped systems, do they all require malware on the targeted system to work?
Also the one with SATA-cables?

Dude, just quit worrying, trust me nobody wants to target your offline machine, Jesus. Your not gonna get hacked, quit worrying bro, there's no such thing of 100 percent security.

I agree, but I am getting close.
And that is why I ask, if malware on the targeted system is a requirement for the hack to work and/or physical access to the targeted system

Thank you

Dude, you're not getting anywhere near 100 percent, that's impossible and never been achieved even by the highest enterprise levels in the security world. Even top endpoint solutions still can't achieve 100 percent security all around.

How is it possible for you to know how good his security is? Also, why shouldn't he be concerned? Makes no sense to me to chastise someone for coming to a security knowledge base website, seeking security advice, especially when you go on to tell him how much he needs help (even though you don't know). If you own a PC, you should be concerned. A PC can be used in a world of ways, work, developing and storing ideas, personal uses, etc., all of which are worth protecting. I recommend everyone take PC security 100% seriously. Those who have been hacked will tell you about the hell a hacking can cause. 😵

Do you have anyting else to add to the topic?

Thank you

Hello

Can a laptop get malware during factory / manufacturer testing?

When I received my laptop, Windows 11 was pre-installed and I completed OOBE. It came from HP.

During the factory / manufacturer proces. When the manufacturer runs tests before shipping. This could be for example: Connect to internal networks or test Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality.

Is there a risk of the laptop getting malware during the testing?
This could be through the Bluetooth connection or Wifi connection or from the internet.

What if the laptop gets malware during the factory / manufacturer testing?

How can I make sure, that when receiving the laptop, that it's clean from malware?

Windows Defender has detected nothing.
Ran several Windows Defender deep scan offline / without internet - clean.

Thank you

While it's theoretically possible for a laptop to get infected during manufacturing or testing, it's highly unlikely due to stringent security protocols. Manufacturers like HP have robust security measures in place to prevent such incidents.

To ensure your laptop is clean, you've done the right thing by running Windows Defender scans. Additionally, you could install a trusted third-party antivirus software for a second opinion.

Remember, the most common way laptops get infected is through user activity, like downloading suspicious files or visiting unsafe websites. Always practice safe browsing habits.

@Oblivion99

let me answer to you ...

-----------------
-----------------

if you want to block air gaped signals from/to your computer
(to neighbors Wi-Fi or other jamming scanner system), use a Faraday Cage :

here is why, and how you can construct it from scientist concept :

The importance of this,
is that you will have only the possibility to use wired cable to go on the internet plug in in your ISP router,
and each device you want to connect from a LAN network from your computer need to be inside this Faraday Cage.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

if you are still aware about privacy from electromagnetic fields, no matter what the purpose of it
(from EMI leaks from your Physical wire), shield your wire :

here is why, and how you can construct it from scientist concept :

The importance of this,
is that you will have only the duty to cool down those cables to go on the internet plugged in to your ISP router,
and each cable who are shielded will be more rigid, as you might think.

Install a fresh copy of Windows.

Question: do you work on something or live a kind of life that you think may make you a target for cybercriminals? Because the malware infections you describe are extremely rare to get unless there's a cybercriminal group dedicating their resources specifically to get your data or track your movements.

If the answer is negative, then worry not, you're not ever gonna face such a threat.
If the answer is positive, then do not use Windows. Choose a private linux distro, such as Tails.
