Take the top 8 or 10 AV's and protection wise there is very little difference between them, statistically it's close to 0. Main difference is the fluff such as vpn, banking mode, identity monitoring etc.
There is difference in performance and the way protection is executed/implemented as well. These tests show just one parameter. This parameter is not necessarily the most importation factor for everyone.

Absolutely, but overall protection is almost the same no matter how fast they do it or how they do it. Everyone decides what parameters they choose are the most important. That's why we have options.;)

Exactly, and that's why for now, I still choose and use F-Secure.
edit: @Trident thank you (100), you're very supportive and encouraging to the members here :)

JQ from Cartoon Network.

I was never a fan of MBAM as primary AV. For secondary opinion is fine thou.
I used to try to use the MBAM free version as a second opinion scanner, disabling it from start up and only running it on demand. But I like to keep things simpler and cleaner and instead use NPE and KVRT (downloading it and running it from a Mexico VPN server) every so often.

I don't ever see it being my full time AV.

Do you like the new F-Secure cartoonish GUI? I'm not used to those and uninstalled it.
As long as GUI works and is easy to figure out I don't care how it looks, that's just nitpicking.

I don't think it was ever meant to be a primary AV, as a secondary layer its fine.

It should be no ones full time AV, but its probably a good secondary layer of protection.

well historically yes but mbam seems to be moving into era of full-time or wanna be. They appear to have a related enterprise AV, Threatdown which also well, at least where it is tested...

Well they may be leaning into being a full time AV however they still are compatible running with most AV's so they have to decide whether they want to be a stand alone AV or a program that can be run alongside AV's. And I have no doubts that their enterprise version is very effective.

And PS, what you still doing up Simmer? :p

I am a late night person, I'll go to between 3 & 4am (I was occasionally running mbam real-time but unregistered with MS Defender, but VM seemed a tad sluggish and after seeing a few positive tests, I decided to register mbam making it primary solo AV and disabling MSD. ("this is a test, it is only a test")

I used it many years ago as then 'layered protection' was the buzz word & I would rarely use a PC without Mbam on it & it usually ran quietly in the background almost unnoticeable even on then very low end machines - Now I'm not sure what it is, it still after years is not a full AV, running it alongside a regular AV Eset, Norton whatever does not seem to be helpful - So I'm still not sure where its going? As a second opinion scanner OK, though I don't often need that, so I'm still not convinced that found a place at least for me yet?

Edit: Plus its expensive for what it does?

Thanks for another review!

I support Malwarebytes partly due to them helping out so much back in the day with those nasty adware infections that no other AV really detected back then in the windows XP days. They are also a very ethical company and do care about privacy hope they continue to improve also the CEO is a really good guy met him a few times back in the day on a few other forums he would join the chatrooms. the good old days of ajaxchat lol!

Up until Malwarebytes v3 was released in late 2016 and name was changed from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, to just Malwarebytes, they never called it an antivirus. With the release of v3, that changed, even though it still worked much better as a second opinion scanner to be used alongside an antivirus, than to replace other antiviruses.
I am thrilled to announce the launch of our next-generation product, Malwarebytes 3.0! This product is built to provide comprehensive protection against today’s threat landscape so that you can finally replace your traditional antivirus.

That was back in 2016 & they still are not accepted as a full AV system - Version 3 IMHO was an unmitigated disaster in the beginning & they faffed around with it until they got it working, they lost lots of users when 3 came out.
