It is fairly critical to change the password immediately.

Most people think that there's no reason to change the password - you need to be on the network to connect to the router, right?

It is actually possible for a webpage to actually detect your router type and log into it and completely bypass your firewall, opening a connection directly to the attacker.

This works within the browser and if you use a default password you can get owned easily.

Disabling remote connection is the best way to handle this. Otherwise, ensure that you use HTTPS to connect to the router (it's a self signed certificate) and make the password/username different and strong.

I have always changed my password because something like this might happen. but what you said Hungry Man is right that is a weakness that can happen. I access my router by going to HTTPS.

Great article, also if your looking for you router IP you can find it by hitting Winkey + R, type cmd, brings up the command prompt, type ipconfig, and find you default gateway it's your routers IP address.
