Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: Teams will add a "meet now" feature and more
Welcome back to our weekly look back at what's been added to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap website. This week is a bit different in that some of the new entries have also been revealed in a Microsoft 365 blog post a few days ago along with a press release for Teams earlier this week.

That included reveals of a new Teams app called Queues that lets users take customer calls in Teams that's coming in June along with a way to interact with Microsoft's Copilot in the new Outlook for Windows and on the web in April.

However, there are some other entries on the roadmap site that are all new.
  • Teams for the desktop Meet Now
  • Teams for the desktop Programmatic Desktop Sharing
  • Teams for the desktop ask for consent from other users to transcript meetings
  • Adding Graph Grounded Chat for Copilot in Excel
  • The new Outlook for Windows and the web will add a feature in May that will let users add shared folders to their favorites
  • If you have PDFs stored on your OneDrive account, a new web-based feature in May will let you annotate and save those files

Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: Prepare for meetings in Outlook with Copilot and more
One interesting new listing concerns the new Outlook for Windows app, as well as Outlook on the web. The Roadmap site says that starting sometime in July, they will get a Copilot-powered feature that is supposed to help people prepare for upcoming meetings:

Copilot can identify and summarize the key points so you can show up prepared in just a few minutes. When you have an upcoming meeting, Copilot proactively shows you a "Prepare" button in your inbox which helps you quickly get context for the meeting providing a summary of the meeting and showing and summarizing relevant files leveraging the power of the Microsoft Graph.

Another feature for Outlook on the web that's coming will be adding Microsoft's To Do to its app launcher. It will replace the current tasks module. However, this change won't happen until sometime in September.

For Microsoft Teams, the company is planning to roll out a new feature in May for all of Team's platforms that will add new functions for group chats:

Users can now access applications in group chats with individuals outside their organization, fostering improved collaboration, interactivity, and productivity. The group chat’s host involving external participants can install, remove, or update applications for use by all members.
Another feature for Teams on the PC, Mac, and Web that's coming later in April will add support for slash commands:

Users will be able to type slash in Teams compose box and select a command, helping them complete their task quickly.
Also later in April, the Microsoft Forms app on the web will let users send forms to others with some of the fields in those forms already filled in. Microsoft says this will "simplify respondent experience and improve data accuracy."

Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: New Copilot features are coming to Word, Excel and more
The Microsoft 365 Roadmap website had another busy week with a number of new entries being added over the past seven days. That's especially true of the many new listings that involved apps getting additional Copilot AI features.

Later this month, Excel is scheduled to get two new Copilot-powered features. One deals with making complete formula columns.

Users can ask Copilot to generate multiple formula columns suggestions at once, from a single prompt, such as "split the name into first name and last name.

The other listing, again for rollout in April, says Copilot will be able to be used in Exel to "utilize complex formulas such as XLOOKUP and SUMIF to create formula columns bringing together data from multiple tables."

New Copilot features are also coming to Word sometime in May. One listing on the roadmap states Copilot can start creating a document by using up to three Word or PowerPoint files:

In "Draft with Copilot," select Reference a file and choose up to three files that Copilot should use when creating the new document. Or, in "Compose," type "/" and the name of the file you'd like to use. You can only use files you have permission to access in your organization's SharePoint or OneDrive.
Another Copilot feature coming to Word in May involves the use of weblinks:

Users can copy and paste a link of a supported file into the Draft with Copilot UI as a reference instead of searching for it in the file reference menu.
Finally, the roadmap lists a feature that will let users "browse OneDrive and SharePoint folders to find files for grounding prompts in Copilot" in April.

Microsoft Teams will add a new chat feature sometime in June:

Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters can chat privately in a separate chat from attendees. This chat is available to access before, during, and after the event.
In May, Teams will add features that will let organizers of webinars and also organizers of town halls "to block the sending of attendee emails from Microsoft Teams."

Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: Designer is coming to Word and more
For people who use Word on nearly all platforms, it looks like it will be integrating Microsoft's AI-generated image maker Designer sometime in June with the help of Copilot. The roadmap states:

Copilot in Word now integrates with Designer to help you find the perfect image or create a banner to bring your document to life.

Designer is coming to the desktop, Mac, web, and iOS versions of Word. There's no listing on the roadmap site for Designer coming to the Android Word app yet.

Another Copilot-related feature that will be added to Word platforms later in April is Bing search integration:

Ask Copilot a question in Word chat and Copilot generates an answer using the power of integrated Bing search. And you never have to leave the app.
That feature is coming to the desktop, Mac, and web editions of Word. Those versions of the word processing app will also add integrated Copilot Graph-grounded search features in April as well.

In May, the desktop and Mac versions of Word will add another Copilot function:

Use Draft with Copilot in Word with the on-canvas Copilot menu when a user selects text, a list, or a table, which generates new content from Copilot and provides a richer, more interactive experience.
Copilot will also be a part of a web update for Excel in May:

Additional support for complex conditional formats beyond the basic top and bottom or conditional operators. For example, Copilot analyzes two factors when highlighting all rows where the product is bikes and sales is greater than 100.
In June, the new Outlook for Windows and the web will get some new copy and paste keyboard shortcuts:

Users will be able to copy and paste emails in Outlook using the shortcuts Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, allowing them to quickly transfer emails to the desired folder, streamlining workflow, and enhancing productivity.
Finally, the Microsoft Teams Calls app will get some AI features in June for all platforms:

The Calls app in Teams will soon have AI-generated notes and action items from your calls, so you can pay attention to your conversations and save time coordinating next steps. Intelligent call recap will work for both VoIP and PSTN calls, and summaries will be generated from calls for which transcription was enabled.

Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: Copilot will soon be able to create quizzes in Forms and more
This past week was a bit of a slow one for major new entries being put into the Microsoft 365 Roadmap website. However, there were a few interesting new listings and updates over the past seven days.

If you are a fan of the Microsoft Forms service, where you can quickly create surveys and quizzes to be sent out to others, there's a new and predictable feature that's coming to Forms on the web sometime in June. The Microsoft 365 Roadmap listing shows Copilot will soon be included in Forms;

Generating quizzes from provided materials is one of the most commonly requested features in the education industry, and it is now available in Forms. To save time, users can create quizzes from documents, textbooks, or notes using Copilot. Copilot can create draft quizzes based on the provided materials and users' prompts.

Another Copilot feature is being added in May to the Microsoft Loop online collaboration service:

Collaborate with Copilot to go from a blank page to a structured document ready for collaboration as quickly as possible. Start from scratch, or select an existing page or template as the starting point and Copilot can modify it for the task at hand.
One more mention of Copilot is that the ability to use plugins on the Copilot site, which was released in a preview form in March, will officially become generally available sometime in December, according to the newly updated roadmap listing.

If you use Microsoft Teams on the Windows desktop and on your Mac, you will get an additional feature when you enable screen sharing sometime in June. When you do launch that feature, it will automatically set you up in a Do Not Disturb mode:

When this setting is enabled, users will be able to continue to receive call notifications when presenting, without having to manually adjust their presence status.
Also in June, Teams users on PC, Mac, and the web will get some new feedback changes:

We are updating the Settings menu for “Help & Feedback” and the in-app “Give Feedback/Suggest a Feature” experience for Teams Desktop & Web clients. Teams Desktop and Web clients will no longer use Microsoft Teams feedback policies for the in-app “Give Feedback/Suggest a Feature” experience, and instead use the Cloud Policy service for Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: The new Outlook Windows app will soon add Copilot and more
The Microsoft 365 roadmap website added some new entries in the last week for upcoming features for its suite of online productivity apps. Many of those new entries this week centered on the Outlook email clients.

We already reported on some new and upcoming Outlook features earlier this week. One of them is that the classic Outlook Windows app now has some Copilot generative AI features including summarizing email threads and writing coaches. Copilot is also coming to the new Outlook for Windows app, and on the web, later in May.

The same Microsoft Copilot experience you can get from the Microsoft Teams app, at copilot.microsoft.com ("Work mode"), and in many other places is now available from within Microsoft Outlook for Windows and web. You can find the Copilot app in the left app bar.

The new Outlook Windows app and the web version will also add some new RSVP settings in July:

Two new settings to improve the user experience when responding to meeting invitations: (1) do not delete invitation email after RSVPing and (2) auto-decline if the attendee's calendar shows as busy.
In June, the new Outlook Windows app and the web version will have a new Meeting Details feature:

When a conversation in Mail is part of a meeting, the Reading Pane will have a new and improved Meeting Details card for a more efficient and modern RSVP flow.
In a related upcoming feature, people who use the Loop collaboration tool will get a new Copilot feature in May.

People with a Copilot License can now leverage Copilot in Loop when they paste Loop components into the Teams app, Outlook, and Meeting Notes.
There were also some new entries on the roadmap site for upcoming Teams features. Teams Rooms users on the desktop will add speaker recognition and attribution features in June:

With Microsoft Teams Rooms, participants can be distinguished automatically regardless of what kind of device is capturing audio in a meeting, and their contributions are attributed in the transcript, making meetings more inclusive and productive. Speaker recognition will be enabled for any in-person meeting participant who has completed the simple face and voice enrollment process, and is included on the meeting invitation. They can also see auto-generated meeting action items assigned to them, important decisions, and meeting highlights by using Copilot.
Teams users on all platforms will get some Workflows improvements in June:

Users will be able to discover which Workflows template was used when they receive a Workflows card in chats and channels. Teams Workflow cards posted from a template will now include a link to the template used. Users will be able to open the workflow template and create their own automated Teams workflows to save them time when completing routine tasks.

Microsoft 365 Roadmap Weekly: New Outlook for Windows will support pinning favorite folders
  • Microsoft never stops updating its roadmap site for new features that are slated to come to its Microsoft 365 apps. This week is no different with a number of new entries on the site added in the last seven days.
  • Let's start with a feature that won't be rolled out until November in preview form and will be generally available in December. The new Outlook for Windows app and Outlook for the web will add support for pinning folders.
  • Another feature coming to the new Outlook for Windows app is due in August.
  • If you use the Word app on your iOS device, you will be able to open PDF documents in that app, and also convert them to Word files, sometime in July.
  • If you use Excel you will get two new Copilot themed features in July. One will let Excel users ask Copilot "for more specific charts and PivotTables, including specifying the x and y axis of charts." The other will let users access Copilot for summaries of columns in the app.
  • Microsoft will add some Teams Rooms features features in August, One will be for both Windows and Mac versions.
  • The other upcoming feature is just for the Windows users of Teams for now.
That's our look back at the last seven days on the Microsoft 365 roadmap site. You can return next Sunday as we will check out what new entries will be added in the coming week.

We are once again looking back at the last seven days on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap website to check out the most interesting new entries that were added last week. This week there was a smaller than normal amount of new listings on the roadmap. Perhaps a lot of Microsoft 365 team members were taking some summer vacation time, and we would not blame them.
That's it for this rather brief look back at last week's new Microsoft 365 Roadmap entries. Come back next Sunday to see what else is new on the site.
