New Update Microsoft Defender update fixes false antivirus alerts in Windows 10, 11, Server

Microsoft says it has resolved a persistent bug that caused Microsoft Defender to incorrectly tell the user that the “Antivirus is turned off”. This bug has been affecting Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server machines. While it is a minor bug, it has likely caused users to become confused about the state of protection on their machine.

The issue has been affecting systems since August 28 and caused notifications to trigger upon system startup and intermittently after. It even ignored attempts to mute the notification via system notifications. The issue is finally addressed as part of Microsoft Defender update version 4.18.26080.4, which was deployed on Thursday.

Really? Perhaps that's why I didn't receive that notification today; instead, I received another notification telling me that my signatures are out of date.

Me too; received the signature notification immediately after installing the MD update fixing the "turned off" notification.

So I spent hours yesterday going back to a 3 month old full system backup just to ensure Windows Defender was to report On again
Thankfully I had retained current daily copy of essential stuff. I wish I'd known it was just a bug
Anyway, up and runnning again now but I seriously thought something was messed up as none of the tricks were working.
