Windows 10 KB5003637 & KB5003635 cumulative updates released

Today is Patch Tuesday and Microsoft is now releasing a new cumulative update for all supported version of Windows, such as the May 2021 Update and October 2020 Update.

The cumulative updates include security fixes for PCs with May 2021 Update, October 2020 Update and May 2020 Update. In this month's update, you can expect security fixes for the OS itself, browsers, core components and other basic functions.

Like every Windows Update, you can open the Settings app and click on the Windows Update option to install the patches. If you own multiple PCs or if you would like to patch the PCs manually, you can learn more about it here.

What's new in OS Builds 19043.1052, 19042.1052, 19041.1052

The cumulative update for Windows 10, version 2004 and 20H2 is KB 5003637 and it comes with these fixes:
  • Security updates to the Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Management, Windows Cloud Infrastructure, Windows Authentication, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Virtualization, Windows Kernel, Windows HTML Platform and Windows Storage and Filesystems.
Windows 10 version 1909 is also receiving the same set of bug fixes in today's update.

News and Interests feed now available for everyone

This update also enables the News and Interests feed feature for everyone.

Called "News and Interests", it is a news feed based on Microsoft News (MSN) and it will give news stories, sports scores, finance and weather information.

News and Interests

Windows 10's newsfeed works just like Google Discover and it will display stories based on your interests. However, you can customize the feed by opening Microsoft Edge and Microsoft account.

The "News and Interests" feed will also include various widgets to display the weather and finance information in Microsoft Edge.

The June 2021 Security Update review:
It’s the second Tuesday of the month, which means the latest security updates from Adobe and Microsoft are here. Take a break from your regularly scheduled activities and join us as we review the details for their latest security offerings.

Adobe Patches for June 2021

For June, Adobe released 10 patches addressing 39 CVEs in Adobe Connect, Acrobat and Reader, Photoshop. Photoshop Elements, Experience Manager, Creative Cloud, RoboHelp, Premiere Elements, Animate, and After Effects. A total of nine of these bugs came through the ZDI program. The two patches that stand out are the fixes for Reader and After Effects. In the case of Adobe Reader, the Critical-rated CVEs could allow code execution if an attacker can convince a user to open a specially crafted PDF file with an affected version of Reader. For the use-after-free (UAF) bugs reported through our program, the specific flaw exists within the handling of AcroForm fields. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. The update for After Effects fixes a large mix of Critical- to Moderate-rated bugs. The worst of these could allow code execution at the level of the logged-on user.

None of the bugs fixed this month by Adobe are listed as publicly known or under active attack at the time of release.

Microsoft Patches for June 2021

For June, Microsoft released patches for 50 CVEs in Microsoft Windows, .NET Core and Visual Studio, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based and EdgeHTML), SharePoint Server, Hyper-V, Visual Studio Code - Kubernetes Tools, Windows HTML Platform, and Windows Remote Desktop. A total of eight of these bugs came through the ZDI program. Of these 50 bugs, five are rated Critical and 45 are rated Important in severity. According to Microsoft, six of these bugs are currently under active attack while three are publicly known at the time of release.

Win 8.1 Pro......If this is the same update, downloaded in background, tried to install. Failed and blue screened my laptop. Or, some Windows update did. Windows spent almost 45 minutes 'undoing the update.' All okay now, but changed updates to 'ask,' rather than let them download and install. I'll decide, not MS.

Oh also, has anyone noticed their weather showing a pretty different temperature than any other weather service? It’s like 10° F lower than my thermometers or Apple/weather channel/yahoo.
Yes you are right, it is currently showing 18°C on my end when it is in fact 13°C...Strange!

If this is the case then it might be best not to let MS monitor the temperatures of your drives! 🙄😕😖😟

Windows 10 KB5003637 update may block remote access to event logs

Microsoft says that apps may encounter issues accessing event logs on remote Windows 10 devices unless KB5003637 or later updates are installed on both systems.

"Event logs might not be accessible from remote devices unless both devices have updates released June 8, 2021 or later," Microsoft states on the Windows 10 health dashboard.

"This issue is resolved if the local and remote devices both have KB5003637 installed."

This Windows 10 known issue impacts only applications using specific legacy Event Logging APIs. Event Viewer and other apps using current non-legacy APIs to access Windows event logs remotely are not affected.
