Insiders with PCs enrolled in the Dev and Beta channels can install a new Windows 11 build with an interesting new feature: Passkey integration, starting with a beta version of the 1Password Beta.

“Windows 11 supports a plugin model for passkeys,” Microsoft announced. “We have partnered with 1Password to bring users a seamless plugin passkey provider integration in Windows 11.”

The blog posts for the two builds are both vague. But this is a platform-level capability that any passkey provider will be able to integrate with in the future: This is just the first pre-release implementation of this functionality.

You can test this feature for yourself by installing cumulative update KB5060838 in the Dev channel or KB5060834 in the Beta channel, and then installing the 1Password Beta app. As with most recent Dev and Beta builds, they appear to be functionally identical. And in this case specifically, passkey integration is the only new feature.

One quick extra note: Apparently, if you install this update via the Dev channel, the system reports as Windows 11 version 25H2. I will confirm this over the weekend. Update: Confirmed! Finally.
