Microsoft is planning to bring back the ability to move and resize the Taskbar on Windows 11 as part of its effort to improve sentiment around the OS this year.

As part of Microsoft’s big push to improve sentiment around Windows 11 this year, the company is working on several highly requested features and changes that are designed to signal to the public that it is listening to feedback. According to my sources who are familiar with Microsoft’s plans, one of those features is the ability to move the Taskbar.

Improvements to the Taskbar aren’t the only thing Microsoft is working on for Windows 11 this year. The company is scrambling to address other top-level feedback items too, including general system performance complaints, File Explorer issues, and others. I’ll have more to share on these improvements in the coming weeks.

It really ought to be asked why on earth has that not been an option as it was for years, as in drag it or who thought that option ought to be removed? Why do you have to jump through hoops to pin something to the desktop? Why has MS changed the start menu & simply not given a simple option to leave it as it has been for 4.5 years?

'The answer is blowin' in the wind, the answer is blowin' in the wind'... Does MS want a medal/award for the post above or a round of applause? :p:rolleyes:

Also I need to the option to change the OS font, as the case with Android; I'm not fan of the default Segoe UI.

Its interesting to see in the original post:

'As part of its effort to improve sentiment around the OS this year' Less hated would be another alternative' I actually like Windows 11 but these features to improve users thoughts on 11 have been requested for many years from beta which I used.

I don't like control freaks & some at Redmond have behaved such as that for some time. Though too many options does cause problems, but to be able to move the taskbar is unlikely to cause the end of the world, IMO crazy it was ever deliberately removed. Just my opinion & as it is their OS so they can do as they like with it, and I have alternative options, however its MS who now want to change peoples feelings, perhaps?? - I have usually found ways of doing things how I wish them to be though, though its not the first time MS have (had) to do a U turn after users gave them critical grief, take Windows 8 original for example?

Here’s How Microsoft Plans to Improve Windows 11’s Performance and Reliability in 2026
Microsoft wants 2026 to be the year when the company focuses on improving the performance and reliability of Windows 11 in response to feedback from Windows 11 users. Pavan Davuluri, the President of Windows and Devices at Microsoft, announced today that Windows Insiders will soon get to test more taskbar customization options and other quality updates, but Microsoft has a bigger plan to improve Windows 11 throughout the year.

In the coming months, Microsoft plans to focus on three areas of improvement: Performance, reliability, and well-crafted experiences. “These areas have meaningful impact on how you experience Windows: how fast it starts and responds, how stable it is under real workloads, and how consistent and thoughtful the experience feels,” the company said today.
