What I'm looking for?

Looking for minimum feedback.

Ive been lurking on linux topics recently, and since i quit fortnite month ago im ready for linux switch.

Im already using grapheneOS on my pixel 6a, pop os on my chromebook

And this gaming rig is running
- PoP OS Nvidia version
- Waterfox as browser with built-in adblocker + bitwarden
- Cloudflare as DNS

Thinking about adding osprey but well see

Do not forget to install Timeshift and make backups with RescueZilla.
Installed these, added to config. thanks.

Make sure Firewall is enabled.Use Clam AV as ondemand scanner.
I installed ClamUI, and ran enabled protections it suggested, also scanned for viruses once. Thank you.

Since you use PopOs, you can download from the Appstore, GUFW, this is a GUI for the firewall and just flip the switch to turn it on.
This was the one i has trouble with. It doesnt play well with the wayland. I found a way to run it by letting it run for once by giving permission with terminal commands. When i booted back and tried run the GUFW it did not launch. I ran test on terminal to check is firewall on and its ON. So i suppose ive done it right...?

If GUFW is failing to launch, the core firewall engine might be the culprit. Open your terminal and check the backend service:

sudo ufw status
If you get an error like "ModuleNotFoundError": Python bindings are missing or corrupted. Reinstall them using APT Package Manager:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install --reinstall python3-gi gir1.2-gtk-3.0 gufw
GUFW needs root/administrator privileges to run. Sometimes, Polkit (the service that handles graphical password prompts) hangs, fails to open, or gets stuck in a loop.To forcefully reinstall the package and reset its default behavior, run:
sudo apt purge gufw
sudo apt install gufw

I only tried one distro which I am still using (well only changed from Xfce/X11 desktop to Cinnamon/Wayland), so I am not a distro hopper and had to look up what it was.
ChatGPT is very positive about Pop OS, good choice (y)(y)(y)
I tried Pop!_OS with cosmic, as new hardware is under consideration here, system76 hardware codes Pop, but it was a little buggy for me in VMware so I removed it.

Even after installing it on bare metal, I still found it to be less clean and reliable than Fedora or Ubuntu + Gnome. Of course, it is still new, so we should give it more time. Personally, I want something that works and doesn't let me down when I need it.

I don't want to compare it with POP_OS or any other distribution. I know many users hate Gnome, but I think Fedora Silverblue is a great desktop option.

I consider myself to be a moderate to advanced user, and no matter what I have wanted, it has never let me down. For servers, however, I prefer Debian as it is more stable.

Please note that I am not a fan boy and I am just talking from my personal experience... :) if in one year, POP_OS can deliver a more stable OS which fulfill my needs, I will switch right away. But at this stage as @simmerskool said, I find it a bit buggy!

Yes, You have done it. Don't worry just "sudo" it out. ;)
i firstly removed all firewall settings > sudoed default settings back > ran gufw with temporary permits to set it up > checked firewall is active with sudo

or scan your installed packages to verify hash, chatgpt can help if you don't know the terminal cmd.

Did it this way and results were '' OK '' & no missing files

Anyways i did choose pop_os as i was familiar with it before, you can install most of apps from their appstore, nvidia + amd sync is there. I havent tried any other distros except debian on 512mb + 1 ghz processor very old laptop and it ran fine few years ago. I dont havent used that laptop since then.
Ill try to get familiar with pop_os first before running any other distro

Debian is widely celebrated as the "mother of all Linux distributions" because it serves as the foundational base for countless popular operating systems, most notably Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Pop!_OS. It just working fine.. Most stable linux I ever see.

I tried this version of Pop!_OS and was truly impressed. To clarify a few points: the operating system itself is not buggy; it is stable and reliable. However, the COSMIC desktop environment does have some issues, which is expected given that it is still in its early stages. It would freeze occasionally, but these issues were easily resolved using the terminal, allowing the system to return to normal function without any loss of unsaved work.

I was kinda curious about how will cosmic do, as i used pop_os last time when it was gnome (?) and saw much ranting on reddit about disliking cosmic. Personally i like it alot tho.

@Moonhorse use Déjà Dup its the perfect backup software for personal files and documents in linux. Timeshift is best for system files restore. You can use both at the same time like I do.
backup should be first priority, but when i yesterday left windows i updated my hdds + cloud drives and took backups that way, i dont have much to backup anyways just family pictures. Im kinda hyped so i did not even think about backups, but incase something goes wrong i have to solve that first priority now. Thanks:giggle:

I consider COSMIC Desktop a promising environment that prioritizes productivity over convention, making it a favorite among developers.
