Since you use PopOs, you can download from the Appstore, GUFW, this is a GUI for the firewall and just flip the switch to turn it on.@Moonhorse Welcome to the Linux group.Enjoy Linux time....
Make sure Firewall is enabled.Use Clam AV as ondemand scanner.
Or just open your terminal and run sudo apt install gufwSince you use PopOs, you can download from the Appstore, GUFW, this is a GUI for the firewall and just flip the switch to turn it on.
Installed these, added to config. thanks.Do not forget to install Timeshift and make backups with RescueZilla.
I installed ClamUI, and ran enabled protections it suggested, also scanned for viruses once. Thank you.Make sure Firewall is enabled.Use Clam AV as ondemand scanner.
This was the one i has trouble with. It doesnt play well with the wayland. I found a way to run it by letting it run for once by giving permission with terminal commands. When i booted back and tried run the GUFW it did not launch. I ran test on terminal to check is firewall on and its ON. So i suppose ive done it right...?Since you use PopOs, you can download from the Appstore, GUFW, this is a GUI for the firewall and just flip the switch to turn it on.
Yes, You have done it. Don't worry just "sudo" it out. When i booted back and tried run the GUFW it did not launch. I ran test on terminal to check is firewall on and its ON. So i suppose ive done it right...?
If GUFW is failing to launch, the core firewall engine might be the culprit. Open your terminal and check the backend service:Installed these, added to config. thanks.

If you get an error like "ModuleNotFoundError": Python bindings are missing or corrupted. Reinstall them using APT Package Manager:sudo ufw status
GUFW needs root/administrator privileges to run. Sometimes, Polkit (the service that handles graphical password prompts) hangs, fails to open, or gets stuck in a loop.To forcefully reinstall the package and reset its default behavior, run:sudo apt update
sudo apt install --reinstall python3-gi gir1.2-gtk-3.0 gufw
sudo apt purge gufw
sudo apt install gufw

I tried Pop!_OS with cosmic, as new hardware is under consideration here, system76 hardware codes Pop, but it was a little buggy for me in VMware so I removed it.I only tried one distro which I am still using (well only changed from Xfce/X11 desktop to Cinnamon/Wayland), so I am not a distro hopper and had to look up what it was.
ChatGPT is very positive about Pop OS, good choice![]()
Even after installing it on bare metal, I still found it to be less clean and reliable than Fedora or Ubuntu + Gnome. Of course, it is still new, so we should give it more time. Personally, I want something that works and doesn't let me down when I need it.I tried Pop!_OS with cosmic, as new hardware is under consideration here, system76 hardware codes Pop, but it was a little buggy for me in VMware so I removed it.
i firstly removed all firewall settings > sudoed default settings back > ran gufw with temporary permits to set it up > checked firewall is active with sudoYes, You have done it. Don't worry just "sudo" it out.![]()

I was kinda curious about how will cosmic do, as i used pop_os last time when it was gnome (?) and saw much ranting on reddit about disliking cosmic. Personally i like it alot tho.I tried this version of Pop!_OS and was truly impressed. To clarify a few points: the operating system itself is not buggy; it is stable and reliable. However, the COSMIC desktop environment does have some issues, which is expected given that it is still in its early stages. It would freeze occasionally, but these issues were easily resolved using the terminal, allowing the system to return to normal function without any loss of unsaved work.
backup should be first priority, but when i yesterday left windows i updated my hdds + cloud drives and took backups that way, i dont have much to backup anyways just family pictures. Im kinda hyped so i did not even think about backups, but incase something goes wrong i have to solve that first priority now. Thanks@Moonhorse use Déjà Dup its the perfect backup software for personal files and documents in linux. Timeshift is best for system files restore. You can use both at the same time like I do.
I consider COSMIC Desktop a promising environment that prioritizes productivity over convention, making it a favorite among developers.I was kinda curious about how will cosmic do, as i used pop_os last time when it was gnome (?) and saw much ranting on reddit about disliking cosmic.
