What I'm looking for?

Looking for medium feedback.

6.8.2025

- Switched from GrapheneOS back to PixelOS, i had no issues but i wanted to try workaround to get my pixelOS working correctly, and i found a way to enable advanced protection once again, also managed to find my backups etc.

Since im using advanced protection and it adds extra protection to google chrome, i was thinking antivirus that works with chrome...f-secure and trend micro came to my mind as first ( sure all antiviruses support major browser aka google chrome)

So my new setup is
- PixelOS
- Advanced protection enabled
- Google chrome as browser
- Adguard for android as adblocker
- Trend micro as antivirus ( i have 8 years of license stacked currently )

Also updated to latest security patch (august)

New config as 13.8.2025

+ Microsoft edge as browser
+ Adguard for android as adblocker
+ Adguard vpn for android as VPN
+ Adguard Paid DNS as dns
+ advanced protection enabled on android settings
+ duckduckgo as search engine

I went simply for microsoft + adguard combo

14.8.2025

- Removed adguard for android
- Removed adguard vpn
- Removed adguard dns

replaced adblocking with ublock origin lite in edge for android

If they continue adding extensions might considering adding security extension, but for now its only canary that supports all extensionsn and im not canary man

4.9.2025
Updated to new feature/security patch of september
Material 3 looks impressive!

Anyways the config nowadays match my computer

+ Kaspersky premium as antivirus
+ Adguard as adblocker
+ Adguard as VPN
+ Adguard as DNS
+ Firefox as browser
+ Google advanced protection enabled

How do you compare your experience after using both stock Pixel and GOS? 🤔
I like pixelOS more than GOS, for me it seemed just as same as pixelOS but with extra privacy/security features
If youre geek you probably like all that extra stuff what you can manage but for average user pixelOS is better to stick with

GOS wasnt ''woah'' experiement for me, i probably would be using it still if it was better in my opinion
If i someday move to linux on desktop i probably will move to GOS aswell but since im using windows, i dont mind having googleOS running too

So TLDR would be theyre same for me but GOS is just extra privacy/security and for people that are geeks mostly or just care about data handled by big corporations

6.9.2025

- Removed microsoft launcher ( Sticking to pixel launcher ). Also microsoft launcher has been using alot of battery since pixel got material desing 3
+ Added Onenote as note app, since it had my microsoft launcher notes synced already

8.1.2026

This is my new setup for 2026 year

Browser: Microsoft edge with ublock origin lite + norton safe web
DNS: cloudflare malware blocking DNS

No antivirus anymore.

tldr: found out today edge supports now every extension in edge store, and supports norton safe web too. Whats great it supports finnish languange, so i installed it on every family device on edge browser

One of the reasons I prefer Edge is the exclusive Norton safe web extension.

yeah, added it to desktop, and on my google pixel 6a. But on my mothers samsung devices ( phone + tab) it seems edge works differently and i could not add other extensions than the default ones like ublock origin lite in there. Anyways im sure its coming later available hopefully.

Browsers are fastest in their ecosystem.
Edge performance in Windows is unbeatable; the same applies to Chrome in Android.
The only problem for Chrome in Android is lack of extensions.

21.1.2026

+ Installed grapheneOS
+ Kaspersky premium as antivirus
+ Adguard as adblocker, added hagezi pro ( recommended) list
+ Cloudflare malware blocking dns enabled in adguard
+ Firefox as browser

Reason for GOS, is that pixelos is buggy when it comes to updates, i was stuck in november patch. Now im at january patch, having january security updates and so on..

Your setup is kind of surprising for GOS. I'm relying on Play Store, Play Protect and built-in OS security, including Vanadium with built-in ad blocking and Enhanced Safe Browsing.
Well i had kaspersky installed in janyary, then moved to bitdefender this month...did not like it somehow.

Moved back to simple setup:
GrapheneOS
Microsoft edge with ublock origin + norton safe web
Malware blocking dns from cloudflare

i did change like week ago, but did not feel spam the thread if my mind changes in a week

Android 17 got released, so i reverted back to PixelOS and updated to android 17.
Installed last night, its good, nice new features.

Google has officially launched Android 17! The rollout begins first for Pixel devices, followed by other eligible Android phones throughout 2026.

This update centers heavily on productivity, gaming optimizations (especially for foldables), and anti-theft privacy features. Here is a breakdown of the biggest new additions.

📱 User Interface & Multitasking

Multitask Better with "Bubbles"

Android 17 brings a major upgrade to the Bubbles multitasking system.

  • By long-pressing any app icon, you can now collapse that app into a compact, floating window that hovers over your active screen.
  • On large-screen devices like tablets and foldables, these bubbles dock neatly into a "bubble bar" at the bottom of the screen, letting you switch between apps with a single tap, resize them, or throw them back into full-screen mode instantly.

Screen Reactions

The native screen recording system received a complete layout overhaul. The standout addition is Screen Reactions, which allows you to simultaneously record your device's screen and video from your front-facing selfie camera. This makes it incredibly easy to record reaction videos or tech tutorials over websites and apps without needing external editing software.

Cosmetic & Quality-of-Life Visuals

  • Hide App Names: For a cleaner, minimalist aesthetic, a new home screen setting allows you to completely hide app labels under their icons.
  • Separated Quick Settings Tiles: Wi-Fi and Mobile Data have been completely separated into distinct tiles for quicker, less confusing toggles.
  • Assistant Volume Control: Virtual assistants now have their own dedicated volume slider, preventing them from shouting or whispering independently of your media volume.

🎮 Foldable & Gaming Enhancements

Foldable Gaming Mode

Mobile gamers using foldables get a massive layout boost. When enabled, this feature introduces an optimized 50/50 split layout: the game view runs on the top half of the display, while a dynamic, spacious gamepad occupies the bottom half.

Native Controller Remapping

If you prefer a physical external gamepad, Android 17 now lets you save custom button remaps directly at the system level. Your preferences save to the device so you don't have to reconfigure them every time you reconnect your controller.

Under-the-hood performance: Google redesigned system memory cleanup and restricted background app RAM hogging. This prevents massive memory leaks, reduces frame drops, and drastically cuts down on UI stuttering during high-def gaming.

🔒 Privacy, Security & Anti-Theft

Enhanced "Mark as Lost"

Security is a massive focal point for Android 17 to combat tech-savvy thieves. A revamped Mark as Lost feature inside the Find Hub now requires biometric authentication (fingerprint/face unlock) to disable tracking or access the device. Even if a thief manages to glimpse or guess your numerical PIN passcode, they are entirely locked out of your personal data, cannot turn off location tracking, and cannot access Quick Settings.

Granular Privacy Control

  • Temporary Location: You can now grant an app temporary, one-time precise location access.
  • Targeted Contact Sharing: Instead of forcing you to share your entire address book with an app, you can pick and choose specific individual contacts to share.
  • Thief Deterrent: The OS now limits consecutive failed PIN attempts and institutes strictly longer wait times between them to prevent brute-force guessing.

🛠️ Performance & Developer-Focused Upgrades

For developers and tech enthusiasts, Android 17 introduces several monumental structural updates:

  • Mandatory App Adaptability: Apps targeting Android 17 can no longer opt out of resizability or lock themselves into a fixed orientation on large screens (devices over 600dp like tablets/foldables). They must adapt seamlessly to windowed multitasking.
  • Smoother Cameras: New professional APIs allow camera apps to switch between lenses or modes without fully restarting the camera session, eliminating visible freezes and delays.
  • VVC (H.266) Video Support: Native support for Versatile Video Coding means higher quality streaming and video storage at fractionally smaller file sizes.
  • Lock-free MessageQueue: Internal testing shows a nearly 10% reduction in app startup times and significantly fewer missed frames across the system UI due to a new, ultra-fast task loop architecture.
