Hi all!
Long time Linux user here, I just signed up as I have to get a Windows 7 Home Premium system up and running for a senior family member to use safely. After I started looking into anti-virus I realised I'm really out of the loop when it comes to Windows security.
MalwareTips has already been a great asset, so thanks to all the contributors for the great guides and tutorials!
Between here and watching some video reviews on YouTube I've picked out ESET NOD32 or SS 7 as the one that looks the most suitable (because of low system impact and because it looks as though it would be non-intrusive yet clear and straightforward)
Next step is to figure out how to configure a firewall, so if someone could point me toward a good tutorial on how to best configure the built in Windows 7 firewall that would be great as I have to make a final decision on whether to use the AV only or go for the full suite. The senior user will mostly be playing with Photoshop Elements, but they have dual boot with Linux for the majority of browsing and online shopping etc. For security I'm more concerned about the activity of children who will likely use the PC when they visit, so a guide on how to best lock down a user account to give them minimal privileges would be good to.
Thanks
Naranja
