@anirbandutta01 Here's what I picked out:. This is a refurbished item. In US "refurbished" means it has gone back to the factory. Either it is sent for repairs or it was received by a customer and he simply did not like it and it is sent back for check up before re-sell. You take your chances. The term may have a slightly different legal meaning in India. In India, the law requires the seller to inform the buyer of the warranty offered. This particular machine has a 6 month warranty, as opposed to a usual 1 year warranty for brand new items in the US . I have seen warranties for refurbished items for only 3 months in US, so you are not getting a bad deal. It is a 8th Generation Core i7-8550U from 2017 with a Passmark score of 5883. Amazon.in

If you go 1 generation below to 7th generation, the difference in performance is very noticeable: approximately -2000 point difference.

When compared with the 2022 Ryzen 5 which I previously found for you, the Passmark performance score difference is a huge drop and cannot be compared because these last few years has seen a sudden huge performance increases for AMD Ryzens, surpassing Intel. But with this i7, when compared to your present i3, you will get much better multitasking performance running multiple programs at once, you can have more browser tabs open to very active web sites, and youtube performance will be good with good resolution. This Lenovo comes with Windows 10 Pro which is worth approximately $90 extra. (which you can upgrade to Win 11 Pro for free yourself ). It should last you 3+ years. And the cost is INR17899 which is INR12101 less than your original budget of 30000, Remember to tell your parents to maybe expect another upgrade later in a few years time maybe because of big upcoming technology change and that you have saved them a lot of money.

Might be a good choice as CPU GPUs , npus ,displays, batteries etc are getting improved lately as there is thankfully competition that drives innovation that we missed for some time (just bought a phone with silicon carbon battery for my brother and it's actually pretty nice having 120w charging in smaller form factor and the Chinese display having 4500 peak nits is pretty incredible for the cost of the Devic so there is huge competition in every sector of computing)

Can I upgrade to Windows 11 Pro when Windows 10 ends of life? Will it runs for at least 3+ years with good battery performance? I'm confused because it's refurbished product so if any problem.

I checked with Amazon and unfortunately it's not available currently. 🙂

@anirbandutta01 . Yes you can upgrade to Windows 11 Pro just before end of life date. I don't know whether MS will still allow the upgrade after 14th Oct 2025.

I do not know the practice in India, but most refurbished laptops in US replaces the battery. For battery performance expect it to last 2-3 hrs. My budget class Ryzen 5 Asus Vivobook (~$500), from 2022, only lasts 2 hrs now, and I use the battery maybe once per week. I use it plugged into the wall mostly. The way how the laptop is used: interacting with it a lot, running many programs, gaming, screen set to very bright, etc will make it last less time.

@anirbandutta01 if there is any problem, there is the warranty so you can return it for refund. It is sold by Amazon, a big huge reputable company, it is huge here in the US too. One of the main difficulties in operating online is trust, people tend to trust a brick and motar company because there is a phyical store where you can touch the item before you buy. And Amazon overcame that and became a global company, they wouldn't be dishonest in their dealings.

I have heard that Opera browser has a battery saver feature. Will it properly work? Windows also has a battery saver I think.

And just after purchase can I upgrade to Windows 11 for free ?? What should I do for that ?

@anirbandutta01 . Yes there is a battery saver feature in Opera but I have no experience with it. It is ON by default.

To upgrade your Windows, you just google for "Windows 11 Installation Assistant". It will bring you to the MS site. Just install and follow along.

In Windows 11, go to Settings > Power, and there is Power Mode, where you can select "Best Power Efficiency" or "Balanced" or "Best Performance".

Most coffee shops in US have power plugs and WiFi for the laptop users. So bring your adapter whereever you go. Coffee shops are very popular over here. In some city centers, there is a coffee shop every 2 blocks. Check out the places where people sit down and meet and have a beverage in your city. ChatGPT suggests Chai Point and Chaayos and Tata Cha and The Tea Trove, or Blue Tokai Coffee and Third Wave Coffee Roasters and Starbucks and Cafe Coffee Day if you like coffee.

I think if it has built-in bluetooth or WiFi 5.

For INR 30,000, you can get the RAM and SSD you need; however, the display and sound quality may be subpar. Laptops in this price range usually have TN displays and low audio quality. OLED displays are more expensive. To enjoy videos, it's better to have at least an IPS display with 300 nits brightness and sRGB 100% color accuracy. I don't recommend buying a refurbished laptop from online third-party retailers in India.

Some manufacturers, like Acer, sell recertified or refurbished laptops.

"Acer Recertified Products are used/demo/damaged Acer equipment withdrawn by us for various reasons from the market, and having undergone refurbishment under Acer’s stringent quality testing and control process at our own factory, are almost as good as new equipment in performance. Acer Recertified Products come with Acer’s limited warranty of one year."
