Microsoft has made available for download, a new desktop client SkyDrive for the Windows. This desktop client will allow you to manage your SkyDrive, right from your Windows desktop. The benefit of SkyDrive integration with Windows is that you will now be able to drag-and-drop to and from SkyDrive with files up to 2GB and access all of your files offline, and have the full power of Windows Explorer available to manage your SkyDrive files and folders.

The main features now being offered include:

7GB free for all new SkyDrive users – but upgradable to 25GB FREE
Ability to upload large files – up to 2GB – and folders using SkyDrive for the Windows desktop
Paid storage plans as follows: US$10/year for +20GB, US$25/year for +50GB and US$50/year for +100GB.

It's always a good thing that they have released a desktop version, even though I still prefer Dropbox. Hopefully next we can find a good deal for the plans that they do.

You can still manage SkyDrive if you like IE9 + Silverlight, but I'll test this out.

For me, I don't care.

I've been waiting years for something like this. Windows Live Mesh and Live Sync where never that great, but now this.. this software is what I have been waiting for.

Oh My GOOOOD look at those prices :0
25$/year for 75 gb sure beats dropbox's 99$ for 50 gb.

SkyDrive is really good now. I was using Live Mesh, but now I have 25GB on a much more secure service than Dropbox (referring to their license terms)

I have been using a skydrive mapped network drive for a while, will take a look at the app.

Here is a link if you want to just map the drive instead of installing the application.

Me too using skydrive. For free 15GB storage you can try 4shared but remeber every 6months you have to acess your account or all files and the account will be deleted.

Did anyone else notice the lack of current upload/download speed? I'm so used to that from Dropbox.
And I must say that it's a few times slower than Dropbox. I'm sad about it but 25GB > 5GB. And the web interface is nice too.

Now Whats the big difference between livemesh and the sky drive app?

Nothing (apart from major improvements), just an older version of software to integrate SkyDrive with your Desktop.

"Windows Live Mesh (formerly known as Live Mesh, Windows Live Sync, and Windows Live FolderShare)" - Link

Live Mesh is superseded by Microsoft SkyDrive (native app).
