@nissimezra, thank you for sharing your system's configuration.:) *trying to remembero_O whether I've read that you have Windows 7 or 8.1 update 1. Wait, using MSE must mean you are on Windows 7!!;) Being a fellow '..late guy':D I understand as on my own config I'd marked both choices you didn't check, "Default" & "Always notify" for UAC before I knew it was one or the other.:rolleyes: So, now I'm wondering whether you're using VM actually protects your system, & 1 reason you disabled UAC to "Never notify". I'm very interested in Virtual Box.
If you don't use a password manager yet, one of my favorite Add-on/Extensions is LastPass for both Firefox https://lastpass.com/ & Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lastpass-free-password-ma/hdokiejnpimakedhajhdlcegeplioahd Now, I shall look more closely into your forms of back up & ComboFix too!:)

I would enable UAC to at least default setting. "WIN" 7,8,8.1 ? Windows 8 with UAC enabled,Smartscreen and built in Security/Firewall are very good.Of course some common sense goes well with it also.I would dump the Google Toolbar and add HTTPS Everywhere,Chromebleed and a password manager such as LastPass. Thanks for sharing your config :)

I suggest you to change your AV.
i disagree with you on this one.
in my personal computer i'm currently using eset AV i've got license from EX work. all others computers home (8) using MSE. Its reliable with no impact on the system, and usually doing his job, in fact non of the home pc's ever got infected just mine.
all in all I don't need more then that and if one day i'll get infected i have no problem with it, all my data are suppurated from the OS and i have image ready in case of a bad infection. data backed up on network as well. even in the worst case u can always boot from cd to recover data.

Ha yep I'm the guy that everyone like to hate since automatic update are turned of on my sys

cheers bro

Hey Eset is very nice but he said he should change Microsoft Security Essentials first because its detection is not that good and second I would say if he is running the essentials yet it support has ended just because the newest version is called Windows Defender. If you google MSE reviews you will see most of the time it receives poor detection resulting in bad reputation as well.

no virtual box or any virtulizesion used, its used for testing purpose only!
make yourself a rule never mix operating system with data and you will have safer and easier life without the need of installing to many software, just remember windows has almost everything you need.

always make a partition for the OS AND for the data saperlatiely then install the OS withe the drivers and your favorite programs, make an image, save the image with the data partition, and never worry on a crash no more

combofix

back in 2007 there were not a lot of software to clean viruses, there ware, but doing nothing. i found that the best 2 software for cleaning were mrt,exe and combofix. these days you have much more. but
combofix still is one of the best repair and cleaning tool ever made, along with msert, exe. still using them for cleaning and trust them.

MBAM is another great tool but im not using it on regulaery use

thx for the tips

Remove MSE because of low detection of samples? That's just crazy. No one in the right state of mind would be installing random executables downloaded from unknown sources.

Just because it 'can't catch them all', doesn't mean it should not be used. MSE/WD is very good at providing protection. Automatic removal, minimal user interactivity, no prompts to "Ignore" a malware detection (like some products). Action Center also provides information regarding the latest removals, if any.

Also I haven't encountered a single infection from the PCs running WD, that are Basic users. Of course, this differs per household.

@nissimezra Are you using Windows 7 SP1?

It has ~50% detection on new samples. If you really don't want to change it, then just install Umbra TS or Common Sense as second AV :)
According to av test panda has 100% detection rate of zero date. in realree word it doesn't has 80%. and when I'm testing do run the files. According to real word here MSE has around 80% and when running the files it catches some more. so I'd say around 90%, 85% it sure is not 50%.

it is doing the job and remember most likely you won't meet zero day threat so its fine

i did test some other free av for work and found out that it still is one of the best option.
panda and AVG and bitdefender free r not an option, we got left avast avira and mse.
i'd still go with mse.

make an image after installing the os and drivers, ,make partition for the data and you dont have to worry about viruses

have a nice weekend
