Solved no bootable device

laptop will not boot this morning... says "no bootable device"... checked and there is no HDD detected at all... I've tried just reattaching the HDD to no avail..

ran diagnostic tools as recommended by this forum... here are my results... what do I do now?

How old is this PC? The HDD isn't recognized at all.

Ensure your HDD is attached properly. Enter the BIOS option and look for the disk controller setting. Then, give this a shot.

If it's currently at AHCI, change it to IDE
If it's currently at IDE, change it to AHCI

Then attempt to reboot

It's a toshiba laptop, 4-5 years old.

How exactly do I do that? Kinda new to all this...

Went to "setup utility">advanced and changed SATA controller mode from AHCI to "compatibility" (only option), and rebooted and still no HDD detected.

Am I dead in the water?

If you BIOS doesn't detect your hard drive then most likely it has died.

Try making a USB Linux boot disk and set your BIOS to boot from USB Device.

If your Laptop will boot from USB then your hard drive is probably faulty and needs to be replaced.
