Briefly explain your current issue(s)

Computer won't boot. Keep getting this error.

Steps taken to resolve, but have been unsuccessful

1) Reinstalling Windows (Computer didn't find any drives to install windows on)
2) Checked memory for errors. (Found none)
3) Bootable diagnostics tool couldn't scan for hard drive issues since it couldn't find any of the drives.
4) Reset BIOS settings to default
5)Attempted to run the disk diagnostics tool in the BIOS. Didn't work since it was greyed out.

My mom has an HP Compaq nc8430 computer. She recently encountered this problem this morning. Does this mean that the hard drive's dead? Any help is appreciated greatly

DId ur BIOS detect ur HDD? Also check if ur sata cable is loosed or not. U can try another pair of sata cable & test it if it works or not..

No, the BIOS does not detect the HDD. I doubt that the computer has a sata cable since it's a laptop

If you set the BIOS to start the first HD and system don't start anyway, might be that the MBR have corrupted, erased or more probably HDD end of life.

Glad you found the problem, well the tip to determine if HDD is fully dead then by checking the bad sectors/its speed of read and write cause they are always depreciated due to environmental factors.
